11 of our Primary pupils, along with 6 secondary pupils, were lucky enough to go to Dundee this week to attend the launch of the new Film and Screen Education curriculum. Brae High School has been at the forefront of piloting Screen Ed over the past three years and we were delighted to attend this event.

After an official launch in the morning, pupils attended workshops showcasing some of the jobs available in the film industry, including prop-making and directing. (No children were harmed while playing with prop glass and fake blood!)

Special mentions go to Amelie and Oscar for having the courage to speak about their experiences of Film and Screen Education in front of a prestigious audience including pupils and teachers from around Scotland, Instagram stars and two cabinet secretaries! They were a credit to our school and we are very proud of them!

Wow what a lovely response to our post yesterday!

👋introducing another lovely member of staff, our new Probationer Teacher of Primary, Miss Jamieson .

👩‍🏫My name is Alanoss Jamieson. I am delighted to be the probationer teacher this year at Brae High School.

It has always been my dream to be a teacher, and I
am feeling very grateful to have the opportunity to experience my first year of my career in such a fantastic local school.

I love being an educator and being able to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on children’s lives. The children are at the centre of everything
for me and I can’t wait to get to know every single one of them.

I am passionate about making learning as fun and engaging as possible for pupils and am always looking for new creative ways to teach materials.

I am really excited to be able to put everything I have learned over my past four years of studies into practice at Brae High School.

I’m looking forward to developing strong relationships and connections with my pupils, staff and the wider community over the next year at Brae High School.

👩‍🏫We’ve had a number of brilliant new teaching staff join us this term, over the next while we will share an introduction from them all so you get to know them better.

Meet our new primary teacher Miss Baronet!

I am a friendly and approachable person who loves to help others. I love to spend time with my family and friends and do things I enjoy such as going for
walks, travelling to new places and going to the gym. I thoroughly enjoy learning about new places and immersing myself in different cultures.

What I love most about teaching - where to begin! What I love most is building positive and meaningful relationships with the bairns and parents/carers I work with. I feel so passionately about supporting the bairns I work with and nurturing positive and trusting relationships which I feel is the
absolute key to success.

I like the sense of community across the school. Brae has a fantastic staff team who feel so passionately about what they do, and the community involvement is amazing. I also loved the fact that Brae High School is a 3-18 school which is so unique in Shetland and really allows teachers to see the progression from nursery right up to S6.

I am looking forward to watching my class grow and become happy and confident learners. I want to build a safe, inspiring and nurturing environment
in my classroom with an open door feel so that parents feel they can come by any time. I am excited to create fun, engaging and memorable learning experiences for my class.
