Ukrainian School Bradford

On Saturday 18th April the Ukrainian Community in Bradford were asked to host a 'Ukrainian Day' in the centre of Bradford where a new Darley Street Market has been built. The forecourt was filled with stalls, music, an ongoing film about the Ukrainians in Bradford on a huge screen and our Ukrainian schkola had it's own workshop.
The children read, wrote and coloured sheets in and also gave 2 short performances of singing and dancing. There was a huge response from the audience as they watched the children sing and dance. The day was made more pleasant when the sun came out and the children could perform outside of the canopy in the sunshine. We showed the people of Bradford our culture and heritage which was very warmly received.

Last week the children at Schkola had a very exciting visit from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Bradford white watch!
The children couldn’t wait to sit in the fire engine (one of the newer models) and test the horn! They were shown all safety equipment and how to use it. Afterwards they had a go at using the hose, it was very heavy and a lot more powerful than they realised!
The Firefighters were amazing and taught the children lots of tips on being safe and how to do this job successfully. They understood a huge part is teamwork and how important this is in any job.

Сьогодні 22-го листопада 2025р громада в Брадфорді відзначила 92 років від Голодомору в Україні. Діти з нашої школи долучилися до громади біля пам'ятника в центрі міста.
Отець Ігор Мазур відправив панахиду а відтак діти з школи промовили вірші про голодомор та поставили свічки та пшеницю коло пам'ятнику.

Today, November 22, 2025, the community in Bradford marked the 92nd anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine. Children from our school joined the community at the monument in the city center. Father Ihor Mazur led a memorial service and then the children from the school recited poems about the Holodomor and placed candles and wheat near the monument.

The children had fun creating bonfire pictures last week and they made an amazing display!

Минулого тижня діти із задоволенням створювали малюнки багаття, і вони створили неймовірну композицію!

Суботу 6-го вересня почалася Школа Українознавства в Брадфорді. Отець Ярослав Ріц відправив молебень і відтак поблагословив всіх дітей і попрощався з дітьми і батьками перед його виїзд на Україну в цей місяць. Всі бажали йому щасливу дорогу та найкращі успіхи в його дальше служіння на Україні.

On Saturday 6th September the Ukrainian School in Bradford began it's new school year. Father Yaroslav Riy held a moleben and blessed all the children and then said farewell to them and the parents upon his departure to Ukraine this month. Everyone wished him a safe journey and all the best for his new mission and continued service in Ukraine.

Чудовий день! Ми весело провели завершення навчального року з іграми, сміхом і справжнім духом спільноти.

🏃‍♂️ Спортивне свято – Діти із задоволенням брали участь у різноманітних змаганнях та естафетах!
🍽️ Смачна їжа – Щира подяка всім, хто долучився до приготування смачних страв – усі були в захваті!
🤝 Особливі гості – Ми раді були вітати друзів з української школи в Шеффілді – дякуємо, що приїхали!

Last Saturday, the children had a spring walk in the club gardens, learning about spring. We had fun looking for plants, flowers and insects too! Then we created our own spring pictures to make schkola bright and colourful! ☀️🌳💐

Last week our SUMivtsi had a fun morning learning all about the Ukrainian Easter traditions! They even got the chance to make and decorate their own p***a. A big thank you to Barbara Demczuk for her help and early start preparing the dough.

Наші СУМівці провели веселий ранок, дізнавшись все про українські великодні традиції! Вони навіть мали можливість зробити та прикрасити свою паску. Велика подяка Барбарі Демчук за допомогу та ранній початок приготування тіста.

On Saturday 8th March the Ukrainian School in Bradford celebrated the life and works of Taras Shevchenko who's schkola is named after. The pupils told everyone of his life and recited some of his poems and showed pictures they had drawn and poems they had written out. There were also a couple of dances and prayers said by Otech Riy for the war in Ukraine to end very soon.

Суботу 8-го березня Школа Українознавства в Брадфорді святкувала життя і творчість Тараса Шевченка за якого школа має його ім'я.
Учні розказали всім про життя Шевченка та
рецетували деякі поезії і показали їхню працю. Теж діти дали два танці. На кінець Отець Рій провадив молитви щоб війна в Україні якнайскоріше скінчилася.

On Saturday 19th January, the pupils of the Taras Shevchenko Saturday schkola in Bradford, went to the Ukrainian Catholic church in Bradford to see and pray to the Vertep.
Otech Riy spoke of the Christmas Story and then about the meaning of "Yordan". They were then blessed with holy water before returning to schkola. It was a very informative lesson and the pupils enjoyed their visit very much.

В суботу 19-го січня, діти з Школи Українознавства ім. Тараса Шевченка в Брадфорді, поїхали до Української Католицької церкви в Брадфорді помолитися до Вертепу. Отець Ярослав Рій розказав їм про народження Ісуса Христа а пізніше про Свято Йордану та покропив їх священною водою. Діти були дуже задоволені і багато навчилися.

Schkola were part of the Yalinka today, the community meal and concert held at the Bradford Ukrainian Club. The children performed in the nativity (вертеп) and recited poems. The Krylati dance group also gave us a brilliant performance!
The whole event was very successful and the children did an amazing job and made the teachers very proud!

Школи були частиною Ялинки сьогодні, спільної трапези та концерту, що відбувся в українському клубі. Діти виступали у вертепі та декламували вірші. Крилаті танцювали і подарували нам яскравий виступ!
Весь захід пройшов дуже успішно, і діти чудово впоралися з роботою, чим дуже пишалися вчителі!
