The Birth of Imam Hassan (رضي الله عنه)
Today we honor the birth of the eldest grandson of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), Imam Hassan ibn Ali (رضي الله عنه), a man of profound wisdom, patience, and peace.
They were born on the 15th of Ramadan, 3 AH in the blessed city of Madinah.
✨ The Story of His Naming:
When he was born, his father, Imam Ali (رضي الله عنه), initially chose the name "Harb" (meaning 'War'). However, out of deep respect, he waited for the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to see the child. When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) arrived, he asked what they had named him. Upon hearing "Harb," the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) smiled and said, "No, he is Hassan" (meaning 'Beautiful' or 'Good').
✨ about Imam Hassan (رضي الله عنه):
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to let Imam Hassan (رضي الله عنه) and Imam Hussain (رضي الله عنه) climb on his back while he was in prostration (Sajdah) during prayer, lengthening the prayer just to let them enjoy the moment.
- Extreme Generosity: It is recorded that he "divided his wealth with Allah" three times in his life—meaning he gave away half of everything he owned to the poor on three separate occasions.
- The Rightly Guided Caliph: Many scholars consider his short six-month reign as the completion of the Khilafat-e-Rashida (The Rightly Guided Caliphate), fulfilling the 30-year prophecy of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
- Physical Likeness: It is narrated that Imam Hassan (رضي الله عنه) resembled the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) more than anyone else from his head to his chest.
- A Man of Patience: He was known for his legendary forbearance (Hilm). Even when faced with harsh insults, he would respond with kindness and hospitality, famously saying to a critic, "If you are hungry, we will feed you; if you are lost, we will guide you."
- Humility in Worship: Despite his high status, he performed Hajj on foot twenty-five times out of deep humility and devotion to Allah.
May we learn from his spirit of sacrifice and his dedication to the unity of the Ummah.
