Bradford Circle for Foreign Languages

German Circle members were highly entertained when Derek Newstead gave a hilarious talk about his travel mishaps on a journey to the Italian Lakes. The summer session concluded with a meal at San Angelo Italian restaurant in Baildon. The new season will begin in September.

Spanish Circle members enjoyed the Latin American Food Festival at Wilsden Village Hall.

Good food and good company at Galos Kitchen, Bingley. Members of the Italian Circle were marking the end of their spring programme. Meetings will recommence in September.

Members of the Spanish Circle enjoyed a holiday in Catalonia. Staying at Tossa de Mar, they enjoyed trips to the flower festival in Girona, the botanic gardens in Blanes and a boat trip up the coast. Back in Bradford now, meetings continue throughout the summer.

Russian dolls, a tin of Haggis, an ancient map of Hamburg and memorabilia relating to actress Flora Robson were some of the items brought along to the German Circle and described by members. Each section runs these “bring an object” evenings and they always unearth some gems.

Kate Bush, Ian McKellen and Beatrix Potter were just some of the dream guests members of the German Circle wanted to invite for dinner when they discussed the topic at a recent meeting.

A fun quiz about popular culture was organised by Eddie Emsworth at the German Circle. At the next German meeting, on May 20, members are asked to describe three dream guests they would invite for dinner.

As Bradford City have an extra game in the league play offs on Thursday, May 14, it has been decided to cancel the French Circle meeting that night. Traffic congestion is always bad around Eldon Place on match days. Instead there will be a new meeting on May 21, when Philip and Maureen Booth will talk about Paul Cézanne's influence on post impressionism. Full programme details are on our website:
