We have over a million reason to be happy!

Since 2019 we’ve funded over £1 million towards:

💚 helping schools go out in all weathers and at times of year when they would not otherwise have done

💚 helping pupils engage positively with school, when they usually find it emotionally challenging

💚 helping pupils experience places they would not otherwise be able to

The heavens opened just as we were setting up for the Get Out More CIC and Better Start Bradford in Bowling Park yesterday. It did not deter our Forest Schoolers though. Thankfully, the weather improved and the children enjoyed a day of fun outdoors, playing games, swinging in hammocks, making Halloween crafts and toasting s'mores.

We have been at Peel Park today on behalf of Get Out More CIC and Better Start Bradford delivering an autumn Forest Schools session. For many of the children, it was their first time at Forest School and their first visit to the park. The children enjoyed den building, fie lighting, roasting s'mores and cinnamon apples, ninja slacklining, dinosaur tig, crafting and much more. Our next session is in Bowling Park on Friday.

We had the pleasure of supporting the Get Out More CIC team in Peel Park today delivering a Forest Schools taster session. Over 100 children and parents attended taking part in crafts, activities and enjoying refreshments from Peeler's Cafe.

We were at Hirst Wood today for the Get Out More CIC Saltaire Holiday Forest School. Lots of new children joined us for their first experience of Forest Schools. They enjoyed making crafts, relaxing in hammocks, whittling spears, building dens, creating a 'Smurf world' and mixing woodland teas. Thank you to Pippa and Miss Smith for assisting today. The children had lots of ideas for activities for tomorrow's session with Sue and Pippa.

Year 5 Forest School, have been learning about dynamic risk assessment this afternoon, when turning an old slide they found into a woodland tabbogan. They had to identify the hazards posed by their planned activity, who was at risk from the activity, how they could mitigate any risks and whether the benefit of the activity outweighed the risks in taking part.

The children assessed the ground conditions and other obstacles, considered the gradient and height of the slope and tested the trajectory of the tabbogan before riding. They accepted that they may suffer a few scrapes and bruises taking part, but decided with the precautions they had taken, the enjoyment of taking part would be worth it. Risky Play is an invaluable part of childhood development.
