Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) can kill without immediate first aid. The UK is one of the top countries in the world for incidence of allergies.

Allergies affect approximately one in three of the UK population and each year numbers grow by 5% with as many as half of those affected being children†.

Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction. Common causes are insect stings, foods and some medication. It is life threatening and requires immediate first aid (an auto-injector) and emergency medical assistance.

The likelihood is that someone in your school could have a severe allergy and this must form part of your first aid needs assessment.

Who should attend?

Those who provide childcare and workplace first aiders who have to deal with those prone to anaphylaxis should also attend.

What you will learn

Prevention, recognition and treatment of severe allergic reaction including the use of auto-injectors and CPR.

Course content

Auto-injector Understanding and recognising allergic reaction
Resuscitation (CPR all ages) Primary survey
Communication and casualty care Unresponsive casualty treatment
Course duration

Half a day (3 hours).

Assessment

Continuous obeservation by the trainer.

Certification

Successful candidates receive a Nationally recognised certificate, valid for three years.
