New research from the Warsaw University of Technology and University of Bradford has now been published in Archaeological Prospection.
The study presents the first magnetometer survey undertaken at Treblinka II and combines non-invasive geophysics with archival imagery, historical records and survivor testimony to refine the spatial interpretation of parts of the former extermination camp.
A particularly strong result concerns the Lazarett, a fake infirmary used as an ex*****on site, where the survey identified magnetic signatures consistent with intense burning in the area described by witnesses.
The project has also involved University of Bradford archaeology students in fieldwork in 2023, 2025 and 2026, with undergraduate Lucy Benoit contributing directly to the published research through her year-long placement with Dr Michal Pisz’s research team.
