03. Explore the contemporary murals of Lozells and the stories they tell about community, identity and activism.

04. Head to Handsworth Park and discover the Benjamin Zephaniah mural — with plenty of time for art, poetry and play.

05. Finish at the Legacy Centre of Excellence in Aston, a community-rooted home for Black arts, culture, creativity and business.

As the current Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Patrice is championing the joy of reading while ensuring that every child can find themselves reflected in the stories they encounter.

Black British history isn’t only something we look back on — it’s being made, documented, painted, photographed and reimagined right now.

This summer, galleries across the UK are spotlighting powerful Black British stories through the work of Shaqúelle Whyte, Sir Frank Bowling, James Barnor and Hurvin Anderson.

From Wolverhampton to London, these exhibitions explore memory, migration, identity, belonging, creativity and the making of modern Britain.

We’re so excited to welcome Garry Stewart as our Project Co-ordinator; and Denise Amory-Reid as our Heritage Lead in Birmingham.

Together, they bring decades of experience in heritage, community engagement, storytelling and celebrating Black history. Their passion for preserving the past while inspiring future generations makes them the perfect additions to our team.

From community archives and cultural memory to creating meaningful connections through history, we can’t wait to see the impact they’ll make as we continue our work across Birmingham 👏🏾💜

Brixton Village has just been named an Asset of Community Value, giving local people a legal shot at buying the site that’s been the heart of Black British and Caribbean life in Brixton for generations! 👏🏾👏🏾

Traders, residents and the Buy Back Brixton campaign have already raised over £563,000 and gathered 38,000+ signatures to keep it in community hands. 🏆

The partnership is focused on mobilising capital, advancing policy and creating investment opportunities across Africa and the Caribbean — driving sustainable economic growth and cross-continental collaboration.
Together, ACSII and The World Reimagined will strengthen dialogue between Africa, the Caribbean and the wider diaspora, connecting investment, education, culture and public engagement.
Through The World Reimagined’s Triangle of Unity, this partnership will support deeper understanding of our shared history while helping to build new pathways for collaboration, opportunity and sustainable development.

Africa Oyé Festival returns to Sefton Park, Liverpool on 20th & 21st June 2026 for an unforgettable celebration of African and Caribbean music, culture, food, art and community.

With world-class artists, family-friendly activities, workshops, stalls and the incredible atmosphere Oyé is known for, this is one of the UK’s most joyful cultural gatherings.

Children under 12 can attend for free with a ticket, and families are welcome to bring their own food and drink, making it a brilliant weekend for everyone.

Join us in celebrating diaspora, music and culture.
