Great to see the rain today- the grass is already looking greener!
A few of us turned out for a bit .
Apples have gone to Bronte Birthplace cafe and to Plenty .
But we did get a bit wet!!

The NHS Green Therapy team continue to garden the plot at Woodville and water plants using rainwater collected in our water butts.
Woodville can store over 3500 litres and in the coming weeks we will increase capacity to store over 10,000 litres of rainwater.
On hot days, water plants deeply early in the day or late in the evening, focusing on the roots instead of the leaves

Our next volunteer session is this Sunday, 10am-12pm, when we'll be finishing the painting of the reading tree, amongst other activities.
If you have spare few hours and would like to join us for a fun, fulfilling and productive morning, we'd love you to join us. All materials provided.
Date for the Diary for September's Shipley in Bloom volunteer session when we'll be meeting at Shipley Baptist Church Garden on the 26th September, 10am-12pm.

We had a lovely afternoon at Peel Park on Friday. We were learning all about trees and fungi. Our little adventurers joined us and had fun digging for bugs with our sensory game, and solving nature-themed puzzles. They decorated their own wooden trees and enjoyed tree and nature colouring. There was also a tea party, and a new tea flavour on the menu, Lentil tea! As ladybirds seemed to be their favourite insect, we also looked at their lifecycle with our realistic models. Who knew a baby ladybird looked like that?
The children also learnt how trees talk to each other through fungal networks called mycelium. They discovered this with two paper cups, each representing a tree, joined by string, which depicted the fungi network underground. They were fascinated to learn that mycelium helps trees to tell each other if they are not well, being attacked by pests, and if they need help and to transfer nutrients and water to each other. Isn't that wonderful? We love revealing the magic of nature to small and adult minds alike.
We also had great discussions with the parents about biodiversity, natural predators, rewilding and the life cycles of insects. So we packed a lot in to our session. Fun was had by all. Thank you to all the Better Place Bradford families that joined us! ☺️🌳🍄🐞

Come along to our free, eco-friendly themed gardening workshop at the Sue Belcher Centre on Monday, 27th July! Meet like-minded people, get stuck in and help us with some weeding and tidying up of the raised beds, learning some new skills along the way.
Hannah from Bluebird Gardening will lead the session, and we will:
🌻 Learn about/ plant companion plants
☔ Learn about/ build composting and rainwater collection
🌱 Make a nettle-based plant feed
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
