Since September this year, DokBiblia Ministries has stood as mother church to The Vessel of the Lord's Assembly International in Lagos, Nigeria — led by Pastor Emmanuel Mezu. I didn't take this on because someone asked nicely. I spent time checking him out first: his registration with Nigeria's own Corporate Affairs Commission, video calls, a walk around his own compound so I could see it with my own eyes, and — most recently — his church's actual bank statements. I've seen the numbers myself. This is real.
Here's what those numbers show. Emmanuel has served as a full-time pastor since 2019. His wage: £5.16 a week. Roughly a quarter of what it actually costs to live. His church's account often sits with less than a tenner in it. He and his congregation worship under tents, because in fifteen years they have never once had a permanent building — and he isn't even legally allowed to keep holding church on the property he lives on.
And this is a man who has given away everything he had the chance to keep. Early in his calling, he had a car worth over half a million naira ready to sell — until he believed God told him to give it away instead, and he did, even after it cost him a friendship. Later, he sold a plot of land he'd been building his own family's future on, and gave every single naira to the church, keeping nothing, while his own wife asked him how they'd eat. He did it anyway.
In a country where plenty of preachers get rich promising miracles for money, Emmanuel has done the opposite. He teaches the text, not a performance. He visits the sick. He sits with the poor. He shows up for the widows. He gives, and gives, and gives — while living on less than most of us spend on a single takeaway.
If we can reach the target of £850 in the next two weeks, we will be able to rent a safe church building for Emmanuel and his congregation — in one of the most dangerous countries in the world to be a Christian right now. The news won't show it, but I will call it: this is a man of God, and he and his people should be free from persecution.
This man has given everything to the Gospel. The least the rest of us can do, sat comfortable in the West, is give something back.
£5 genuinely changes his week. £100 changes his year. £850 gets his people off the ground they're praying on and under an actual roof.
