British Dyslexia Association We are the voice of dyslexic people of all ages in the UK. The British Dyslexia Association is the voice for the 10% of the population that experience dyslexia.

We aim to influence government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia friendly society, that enables dyslexic people of all ages to reach their full potential. We campaign to encourage schools to work towards becoming dyslexia-friendly; to reduce the number of dyslexic young people in the criminal justice system; and to enable dyslexic people to achieve their potential in the workplace. The

British Dyslexia Association provides the only national helpline supporting tens of thousands of people each year. Working alongside our network of Local Dyslexia Associations, we support people of all ages from across the country.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Parliament yesterday for the launch of our new report, A pathway interrupted.

It was a pleasure to welcome policymakers, parliamentarians, educators, employers and sector leaders to discuss the challenges facing dyslexic young people and the action needed to improve outcomes. The insights shared during the event reinforced the importance of working together to ensure that all young people can successfully progress into education, training and employment.

A huge thank you to the speakers the Minister for School Standards Georgia Gould - MP for Queen's Park and Maida Vale, Adam Dance - MP for Yeovil and South Somerset, Theo Paphitis and Matt Upton . School should open doors, not close them.

Our research revealed 70% of dyslexic young people say school limited the education, training and career opportunities available to them.

Late diagnosis. Poor understanding in the classroom. A chain reaction that pushes talented young people out of education and into uncertainty.

With just under a million young people in the UK currently NEET, we can't afford to keep leaving dyslexic talent behind. It's time for earlier screening, better teacher training, and support that actually works.

Imagine sitting in a classroom every day, struggling, and knowing the person meant to help you hasn’t been trained to understand what you're dealing with.

For over half of dyslexic young people, that's not imagination - it's their experience. Our research showed 54% said their teachers did not have enough understanding of dyslexia.

"Being told that you're slow or you might just be stupid from people who are meant to be educating you growing up... it was pretty hard as a kid." - Max

We are calling for better teacher training so no dyslexic young person has to go through school feeling unseen and unsupported.
