A little light sparring helps him develop his confidence and body awareness. It creates the play opportunity to use the skills we practice each week in class. It allows him and I to share something I really enjoy.

It probably means this boy will be better than his short dad by the time he hits his teenage years!

Learning a new skill or technique.....

Anyone can do it.
Do it for enough years and you'll get good.
Do it for a few more years and you'll earn a belt.
Do that skill during sparring or when it's really needed in self defence, then you really understand why you practiced it so many times.

Young minds are amazing.

They absorb so much.
Everything is new.
Most things are exciting.

But sometimes they need to stop, look, listen, feel, think and understand the task.

Trying to make sure they learn the correct technique is a challenge and priority.

If I do my job well the science says the skill will be learnt in a few as 70 ish reps. Unfortunately, if the student misinterprets me and incorrectly learns the skill it may take several thousand repetitions of correction to overwrite their annoying poor posture, punch or throw.

Lets take our time and do it right the first time hey 😆

Giving feedback is essential!

By the end of the lesson on Tuesday my young friend had a fantastic block for my round kick. She was keeping her hands up and smiling.

After a few weeks of attending the classes she's really learnt alot. More importantly she comes back each week with a smile.

I must be doing something right.
