I had a lovely message from a parent of student I tutor science one to one with . So just for context after every session I send an update about how the session went and what we covered.
So this is the message " This is amazing ! He seems to be developing an interest in science with your help. Many thanks for this update ! "
This makes me feel so proud of the service I offer and the positive impact I have on students.
Get in touch to find out more about how I can help with science tuition both one to one and small group sessions.

Get ready for GCSE exams 2026
Why starting early works (and feels nicer) ⏰
Little and often beats last-minute marathons. one hour of tuition a week, builds exam muscle without the stress sweats.
Memory needs spacing. Our session include engaging activities and lots of retrieval practice techniques to help content stick.
Confidence grows quietly. Early wins now = less panic when mocks arrive.
Tuition can explain the knotty bits in your specification in plain English (with patience and diagrams!).
Exam technique coaching: we practice exam questions identifying command words, structure, and how to squeeze the last marks.
Mock preparation & feedback: targeted practice, then specific improvements.
Starting tuition early can often result in predicted grade lift: by addressing weak areas early gives teachers evidence to predict grades more confidently.
You’ve got this. Truly. Your grades are one part of your story — not the whole book. And if you need a cheerleader who knows the specs inside out get in touch.

It's been a very busy start to the school year.
September always is. There's getting to know your new classes, planning all your lesson's , learning all those new student names and who works best where in the classroom. Plus a million other things on my to do list.
But now I've had a moment to breath and reflect on how well my year 11 students did on their GCSE exams both in school and those I tutor.
over the past few weeks ,I've had the pleasure of so many lovely messages from parents and students I tutor . They've been letting me know how well they did in their exams and what doors have opened from them as a result of their hard work.
Every one felt that my tutoring had made massive difference to their outcomes. These students improved mainly due to a boost in their self belief, my main mantra to my all of students is " you know more than you think you do"
I am so grateful to have one foot still in teaching Science and one foot in tutoring science to students. They both inform each others best practice , and as as result of each I am much better at both teaching and tutoring. I need to get round to writing up my client testimonials , if only to give confidence to anyone considering my science tutoring . However here is my lates google review which was such a lovely surprise to read. Thank you to all my previous clients you've been such a pleasure to work with.

So I'm on a much needed summer break from tutoring with my two boys.
It's given me time to breathe and reflect on this past year of teaching and tutoring science.
Time to think how blessed I am to have discovered science tutoring .
Time to catch up on some much needed admin .
Time to plan for the coming year of teaching and tutoring.
Time to move towards small group tuition and step away the classroom.
Time to build a website.
Time to connect with like minded souls who are passionate about tutoring science.
Time to spread the word about Atomic Tutoring.
Time to build my lovely business and be in control.
And most importantly spend much needed time with my neatest and dearest. Because they are who I'm working for really.
Time for rest and relaxation for me so I'm fit and energised for the new academic year.
This next academic year is going to be pivotal.

The learning pit by James Nottingham, illustrates the process students go through when they are using critical thinking to solve a probelm.
Sometimes it feels messy , uncomfortable and frustrating, but that's often when most growth happens.
First they are confident-they think they understand.
Then comes confusion-the dip as they realise its more comet then they thought.
That's the pit -the place of struggle questions and doubt.
And then with support ,reflection and resilience they climb out with deeper understanding.
It's important not to rescue tutees to quickly from the pit. Instead given them the tools
Question prompts
Time to reflect
Peer discussion
Permission to be stuck
Because the pit it not failure, its learning in progress. And it's not just for students ,its for teachers, leaders, parents we all have our own version of it.
The challenge to ,normalise the pit, celebrate and honor the process .

My latest charity shop find, I love finding books about science.Especially if they have interesting and relevant stories I can use to engage and interest my students and tutees.
Helping students discover the relevance of science ,how it relates to the current world ,its historical context and how it can benefit them, even if its just helping to develop their critical thinking skills ,is key to how much they will enjoy science in their lessons.
