Islay High School - Developing skills for your future

Vision Statement

At Islay High School we are not only ensuring our students do well academically to allow them access to the best opportunities in their future, but by putting emphasis on the development of their skills we are giving them the opportunity to develop into confident and fully employable young people. Students experience a rich learning culture which helps them develop the skills to support success academically and in the wider community. Through exposure to adventure and enquiry based experiences students are given the opportunity to develop their personality and become a more independent and self-motivated learner. Values

Success (Academic and personal)
Adventure (A willingness to try new experiences and learn from them)
Enquiry (A thirst for knowledge, desire to develop skill, ask questions and explore opportunities)
Pride (As part of the school and Island communities and in celebration of all achievements)

Remembering Tom Thomson

Tom Thompson was a Science teacher at Islay High School many years ago and will be remembered by many former pupils, colleagues and friends from his time on Islay.

Sadly, Tom recently passed away after a battle with a glioblastoma.

Tom’s wife would like to invite former friends, colleagues and pupils to come together to remember Tom, share memories and have a chat on Saturday 3rd October, from 2pm–4pm.

If you knew Tom during his time at Islay High School, you would be very welcome to come along and remember him with others who knew him.

Saturday 3rd October
2pm–4pm

Please feel free to share this post with anyone who may have known Tom during his time on Islay.

New Resources for Islay High School Art Department
We are delighted to share that the Art Department at Islay High School has successfully received a ÂŁ300 grant from Book Relief UK to diversify and update our Art & Design Resource Library.
Thanks to this funding, we have now purchased a fantastic selection of contemporary, image-rich art and design books to bring fresh inspiration into our studio.
The new resources broaden the range of artists, designers and visual cultures represented, including women artists, artists of colour, and practitioners from non-Western and global traditions.
A huge thank you to Book Relief UK for supporting this project and helping us provide our young artists with valuable, inspiring resources. We can’t wait to see these books being explored and used in the studio!
