Reviewing protein synthesis from transcription to translation with a year 12 biology student this evening. So exactly how do ribosomes act as the protein synthesis machines of the cell? 🧬

Ribosomes are tiny cellular structures responsible for building proteins by translating genetic instructions carried by messenger RNA. They join amino acids together in a specific sequence to form proteins needed for growth, repair, metabolism, and cellular activities. Because of this essential role, ribosomes are known as the protein synthesis machines of the cell.

Hi everyone 👋
I’ve had a few conversations recently with parents asking when the right time is to start tuition, so I thought I’d share a bit of perspective from my time as a secondary school teacher.
A lot of people assume tuition is only needed once GCSEs are right around the corner, but actually, Year 10 is one of the most effective times to start, especially for Science.
By Year 10, many students are:
• moving into more challenging content and longer, more structured answers.
• carrying small gaps from earlier years (even if they’re coping day-to-day)
• starting to compare themselves to others and lose confidence.

Starting earlier means we can:
🌱 fill gaps before they become bigger problems
🌱 build confidence without the pressure of exams
🌱 help concepts properly click rather than rushing
🌱 make Year 11 feel much calmer later on

What a year 10 session usually includes:
✨ short, clear teaching explanations
✨ guided practice and problem-solving
✨ opportunities to ask questions in a safe, supportive setting
✨ personalised support based on what they’re finding tricky at school
The sessions are relaxed, but still focused - and one of the biggest things parents notice is how confidence grows alongside progress.
For anyone wondering, I offer science tuition from Year 9 through to Year 11 in all 3 disciplines, as well as Biology at A-level.
If you’d like to chat or ask any questions, feel free to message me - I’m always happy to help.
