Attention Care Home Staff! We have a couple of nursing home visit slots at a discounted rate available, due to cancellations! No more heatwave please!!

We have lots of tricks we use to keep the creature crew cool: the enclosures are all positioned to maximize shade across the day, indoor and outdoor fans, large bottles of frozen water for animals to lounge next to, cool tiles and cooling mats for them to lie on, plenty of shade, reflective insulating foil to keep heat out of enclosures, cooling treats and water refreshes across the day, light misting where appropriate, frozen towels, and big hair cuts for the fluffiest animals. All while keeping a very close eye on everyone to spot early signs of heat stress.

Visits have been rescheduled for Wed & Thurs, but it's a busy few days ahead at H.Q. keeping the animals cool and comfortable!

We waited very patiently for the dandelions to grow and for a sunny June day to capture them at their best! We weren't expecting to get 3 weeks into June for the sun to appear! Worth the wait though.

Upside down seems to be the best position for ovipositor cleaning when you're a katydid! The ovipositor is used to position the eggs as they're being laid. The giant hooded katydids are a very tidy bunch of orthoptera!
They've been such interesting insects to care for. There's always something interesting going on with them! Their size makes it so easy to see all the intriguing insect behaviors not so easy to spot in some of the smaller invertebrate team!
