Some stories just need to be told. 🌍
When Saule was 15, she packed her bags and moved to a small seaside town in Devon called Teignmouth. She didn't know anyone. Her English wasn't perfect. And if she's honest, the first few days were really hard.

But something shifted.

She started making friends.
Her confidence grew.
Her English improved just by being in it, living it, every single day.
She enjoyed the programme so much that when the year ended, she decided to stay.

Then stay again.

One year became three.
Teignmouth became her second home.

After finishing college in Exeter, Saule went back to Lithuania, but England had already changed her. She spoke fluent English, she'd worked in customer service, she knew how to connect with people from all over the world.

That opened a door she hadn't expected.

She trained as cabin crew.
First with a Lithuanian airline based in Manchester.
Then with airBaltic, flying internationally.
The girl who once arrived nervous and homesick in a small Devon town was now travelling the world for a living and loving every second of it. 💛

"Being away from your parents for so long makes you more independent, grown up, and makes you look at life from a different perspective." ~ Saule

She still goes back to Exeter to visit friends. Still calls it home.

At White House Guardians, we've been supporting journeys like Saule's since 1992. We never know exactly where a student will end up but stories like this remind us why we do what we do.

Something families often tell us, years after their child studied in the UK...
"It wasn't just the grades. It was who they became."

We love it, it's the part we love most about our work.

When a young person moves to a new country, something changes. Not overnight, it's much quieter than that. But you notice it in small moments.

The first time they sort something out on their own.
The day they stop comparing everything to home.
The friendships they build with people from completely different backgrounds.
The confidence that was always there, finally finding space to grow.

Independence. Resilience. Cultural fluency. A wider view of the world.

These things don't show up on a transcript but they tend to stay with students for life.

At White House Guardians, supporting that journey is genuinely the heart of what we do. Not just the logistics (though we've got those covered too 😊), but the human side.

The check-ins.
The reassurance at 10pm.
The steady presence that helps a student go from settling in to truly thriving.

If you're thinking about a UK education for your child, we'd love to know what are you hoping they gain, beyond the grades?

Yes, we're only in June but September will be here before we know it 🍂 and whether this is your child's first year in the UK or they're returning for another year, a smooth start rarely happens by accident. 🤗

We know that the best transitions are the ones that are planned early, these are not stressful, but begin in a calm, organised way that gives everyone time to feel ready.

For families, that preparation might include getting to know the host family, understanding routines and house expectations, and making sure your child knows who to contact if they need help. For students, it can be as simple as feeling familiar with what the first week will look like, how school orientation works, and what to expect socially as well as academically.

At White House Guardians, we support that process from the start. 🏁 From host family introductions to guidance around settling in and school orientation, our role is to help students feel safe, supported, and confident as they begin the year.

If you're planning for September and want to talk through the timeline, the practical steps, or what support looks like on the ground, we're always happy to help.

Early planning, confident starts, the WHG way since 1992. 🌟

What is the foundation that everything sits on when it comes to international education? Safeguarding.

We're not talking about it being a nice thing to have, it is the most important aspect to anything and everything. And we take it extremely seriously.

We know that when a family sends their child to the UK for education, they are trusting other adults to step in when they can't be there. And trust has to be earned, backed up by clear standards, and not offer vague reassurance.

You can be assured that at White House Guardians, safeguarding is built into our DNA, it's how we operate every single day. This includes AEGIS accreditation, enhanced DBS checks, Level 3 child protection training and of course, 24/7 emergency support.

We don't just say we do it, these are the practical systems that protect young people and give parents peace of mind.

Our Local Guardians get to know your child, they stay close with schools and host families, they're on the ground with every move. Our Guardians can notice when something feels off and act early, communicate clearly and make sure that every student feels safe enough to speak up when they need help.

Your child's safety is everything which is a responsibility that we take personally.

Got questions or want to know more? We're here to talk through and chat with you to ensure you make the right decision when sending a child or young person abroad for their studies.

We know that not all guardianship is the same, quality matters 100%

When you're looking in from the outside, many services can look similar. How?

Someone is listed as a point of contact, there is a number to call, there even may be a promise that help is available if something goes wrong.

But when you're sending a child or young person abroad with you there to protect and guide, your main concern is going to be about what happens on the ordinary days and not just when it's an emergency.

It comes down to reactive and proactive, and here at White House Guardians, we can confidently assure you that we are proactive at every step.

You may be wondering what this looks like.

It could be the regular check-ins, noticing when a student seems a little off. It could be staying close to the school or host family so that every single small issue is handled there and then, before it blows up. And above all, it's that clear communication with parents, without creating extra worry.

When you send your child to the UK, the difference between reactive and proactive will change the student's whole experience. We're talking about their safety, their confidence, their ability to settle or ask for help. And of course their wellbeing is supported and nurtured at all times while they are away from home.

At WHG, we have built our reputation on going the extra mile because we know that your young person deserves nothing less.

So, when it comes to choosing a guardianship service, we'd rather you focus less on ticking the boxes and more on finding someone who will genuinely care for your child when you cannot be there yourself.

The next step of the process? Get in touch to see which guardianship package suits your family, and your needs, and let's start the UK experience with every chance of being a good one.

When we talk about international education, we often focus on academics, qualifications, and career outcomes. But there's a quieter, equally transformative story happening in homes across the UK.

It's the story of Maya, a 16-year-old from Singapore who arrived at her host family's door nervous and homesick.
Within weeks, she was laughing at the dinner table, teaching her host siblings Mandarin, and feeling genuinely at home.
Her host mother became someone she could confide in. Her host father helped her navigate GCSE stress.
By the end of her first year, she wasn't just a student in their house, she was family.

This isn't coincidence. It's intentional.

At White House Guardians, we believe that the quality of a student's home environment directly impacts their academic success, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth.

That's why we invest heavily in host family selection, training, and ongoing support. Our families aren't just providing accommodation, they're creating safe spaces where young people can thrive, belong, and become more resilient.

Every host family we work with is carefully vetted, DBS-checked, and trained in child safeguarding and pastoral care.
But beyond the boxes we tick, they're chosen because they genuinely understand what it means to welcome a young person into their lives.

They see the potential. They offer stability. They become the trusted adults who make all the difference.

For parents considering guardianship services, this matters.
Your child won't just have a roof over their head, they'll have advocates, mentors, and people who care about their journey.

For educators and school leaders, this is why partnership with quality guardianship services strengthens your international recruitment and retention. Students thrive when they feel genuinely supported.

The best international education stories aren't just about exam results but about transformation, belonging, and the profound impact of being truly seen and supported.

That's the WHG difference. 💙

When parents consider a UK education for their child, they often focus on the school itself.
Just as important is what happens outside the classroom, especially when a student is far from home and navigating a new culture.

This is where a Local Guardian becomes central to student wellbeing.

For many international families, they are your child’s first point of contact on the ground.

They live in the communities they serve, understand local expectations, and know how schools and pastoral systems work in real life.
They are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because support is rarely needed only during office hours.

At White House Guardians, our Local Guardians are not simply there for logistics.
↳ They are mentors, advocates, and trusted adults who build relationships over time. They notice when a student seems quieter than usual, help them find solutions early, and provide calm, consistent reassurance when things feel overwhelming.

This is what proactive guardianship looks like.

If you are exploring a UK education for your child and want to understand what strong, local, day to day support can look like, we would be happy to talk.

International education can be life-changing, but for a first-time student, it can also feel daunting.

The first few weeks are often a mix of excitement and overwhelm: new routines, a new school culture, unfamiliar expectations, and the quiet moments when homesickness creeps in. It’s not that students aren’t capable. It’s that they’re doing something brave, far from everything familiar.

This is where guardianship makes a real difference. At White House Guardians, our Local Guardians don’t simply manage logistics.
They help build confidence, through steady check-ins, practical guidance, and being a trusted adult who notices when something feels off.
They’re there to help a student settle into accommodation, navigate day-to-day questions, and feel supported when emotions run high.

Because confidence isn’t something a student either has or doesn’t have. It’s something that grows when they feel safe, understood, and not alone. That’s the WHG difference.

If you’re considering a UK education for your child and want to understand what strong, consistent support looks like on the ground, we’d be happy to talk.

Exam season has an end date. 🗓️
When you’re in the thick of revision and back-to-back papers, it can feel like it will go on forever.

But there is a finish line - and sometimes simply knowing exactly when it is can make the whole season feel more manageable.

A helpful tip we often share with students is this: mark the final exam date clearly (on a calendar, on a phone, even on a mirror).
Then plan something small but enjoyable for the day after - a favourite meal, a day out, a relaxed evening, anything that gives them something positive to look forward to.

We’ve heard students say it makes a real difference:
“I wrote the date on my mirror. Every time I wanted to give up, I looked at it. Only X days left.”

And from another: “My host family booked a trip for after exams. That made the hard weeks feel manageable.”

The stress is real. The pressure is real. But it isn’t forever.

Students: you’re going to get through this. 💪

Host families and Local Guardians: helping students see the finish line is one of the kindest things you can do.

What’s your post-exam plan, how will you celebrate when it’s all done? Let us know in the comments 👇

Your child can miss home and love life in the UK. Both can be true. 💛
Homesickness doesn’t follow neat rules.
It doesn’t disappear after week one, and it doesn’t improve in a straight line.
And it definitely doesn’t mean something has gone wrong.

In fact, homesickness often looks like this:
They’re having a great day at school… and still miss you deeply.
They feel safe with their host family… and still long for their own bed.
They’re making friends and settling in… and still have the odd tearful evening.
They’re thriving… and still feel that pull towards home.

Two opposite feelings in the same moment - and it’s completely normal.

What we’ve learned from supporting international students is simple, homesickness isn’t failure. It isn’t a red flag. It doesn’t mean they chose wrong. It usually just means they’re learning to love two places at once. And honestly, that’s quite beautiful. ✨

Your child is growing a new life while staying connected to their roots. That kind of growth can feel uncomfortable at times but it’s also how confidence, resilience, and real independence are built.

If your child is feeling homesick right now, remind them: you’re not broken. You’re brave. And what you’re feeling is proof that you love deeply. 💪

Has your child experienced homesickness while studying away from home?
