Our CBT-L5 course is built around one key shift: understanding that CBT isn't just a set of techniques, it's a structured, collaborative process between counsellor and client.

Students often come away with a genuine boost in confidence working within a CBT framework, and one of the things they value most is learning alongside others. The group setting means real peer support and the chance to learn from other people's experience along the way.

This course is for qualified counsellors, so you'll need a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or equivalent to join us. It's particularly popular with those working within caring roles such as nursing, teaching, or social care, we regularly welcome school counsellors and nurse counsellors onto our post-qualification courses, though it's a valuable next step for any qualified counsellor wanting to build CBT into their practice.

To find out more about our Level 5 CBT Diploma, visit our website. We're more than happy to answer any questions you have about this course.

Considering a career as a counsellor?

Counselling might seem like a career for later in life, once you've had years of experience to draw on. In reality, some of the most valuable qualities in a good counsellor, curiosity, patience, and a genuine want to understand people, aren't things you have to wait to develop.

Training early means you build real skills and structured experience while you're still working out what you want your career to look like. It's also a foundation that carries into all sorts of paths, not just counselling itself.

If this is something you've been quietly considering, our short courses and free taster sessions are a low-pressure way to find out if it's the right fit.

Have you used one? Mind is looking for feedback 👀

The UK government announced plans for more protections for children using AI services. This means new restrictions on chatbots that provide mental health advice.

That’s why we want to hear from you. Restrictions are a good start but there is still so much we don’t know about the human and environmental impact of generative AI (Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini) and how it should be regulated. We recently launched our own independent Commission ‘Mental Health in the Age of AI’ to hear about your experiences.

We’re clear that AI tools should not replace in-person support. This is why we are campaigning for existing mental health services to provide better person-centred care.

You can help influence the decisions government make about AI. Your experiences, concerns and ideas will help us influence the decisions the Government is making about the future development and regulation of AI.

Share your thoughts and opinions on AI and mental health. Your ideas, experiences and thoughts will help us influence positive change and address potential risks posed by AI, making it safer when it comes to mental health. Your voice can help shape the future of AI and mental health. We'll use what we learn to influence Government decisions, promote positive change, and address potential risks. But one thing is clear: AI tools should not replace in-person support or human connection.

most memorable experience you'll take part in...

The biggest shift our students see when taking the Effective Listening Skills short course usually isn't a new technique. It's realising counselling isn't about giving advice or sympathy, it's about really listening. Many students have their own moments of finally feeling heard, some for the first time, and start to understand just how much depth genuine empathy actually has.

Sitting with silence, rather than rushing to fill it, becomes one of the most powerful things people learn. Sharing in a small group, and listening to others do the same, brings up real self-awareness, and many recognise habits they didn't know they had, like people-pleasing or rescuing.

It's not just useful for those considering counselling as a career. Anyone who deals with people day to day, whether that's through work, parenting, or pastoral roles, comes away with skills they'll use straight away.

Four weeks in Bournemouth. Starting 19th August. Find out more about our in-person and remote ELS courses: www.redlandscounselling.co.uk
