Last week we explored how bodies are built from cells to organs. We learnt how to use microscopes, how to prepare slides and viewed our own cells ๐ฌ๐งซ
We also learnt how to carry out a dissection safely and explored how the heart works ๐ซ
Next dates are:
Bournemouth 23rd June
Christchurch 3rd July
Please do let me know any topics you'd like to see in future hands-on science sessions!

I'm excited to be bringing something a little different for next month's Hands on Science session for home educated children.ย We will be looking at animal cells, tissues and organs ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ฆ
In this session we will conduct a range of activities and experiments to investigate how our bodies are built and organised. As part of the activities we will cover parts of the Microscopy required practical activities for Biology iGCSE/GCSE, as well as carrying out a dissection. Safety instructions and equipment are provided ๐ฅฝ๐งค
Please note that one of the activities will be the dissection of a lamb's heart. If your child is not comfortable with the sight of blood, or has ethical objections to the use of animal tissues, then this session will not be suitable for them. The activities are led by a qualified science teacher, fully risk assessed and DBS checked.
Due to the resources required for dissection, the price does include a one-off ยฃ1 supplement to cover the additional costs of organs for this session. Additionally booking will close 5 days in advance in order to allow for provision of organs and there are a maximum of 8 places available in each session.

I get great feedback all of the time, but as a small business it means the world to me when people take the time to leave a review.
Why? Because it means they don't just want to tell me why they're happy with my service or event: They want to tell the world!

This month's home education groups focused on Chemical Energy: We explored how energy can leave or enter chemical bonds in a reaction, how we can convert chemical energy into electrical energy and how electricity can drive a chemical reaction through electrolysis!
If you have any suggestions about what topics you would like to see in future sessions then please let me know ๐งช๐ฌโก๏ธ

I'm excited about March's hands-on Science session for home educated children ๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐จโ๐ฌ The theme of this session will be Energy in Chemical bonds ๐งชโก๏ธ
In this session we will conduct a range of activities and experiments to investigate how we know that chemical bonds store energy, how we can use energy to drive a chemical reaction and how we convert and use chemical energy in daily life ๐
As part of the activities we will cover parts of the Electrolysis required practical activities for Chemistry iGCSE/GCSE. Safety instructions and equipment are provided ๐ฅฝ
These sessions are designed to cover Key Stage 3 & 4 levels of knowledge and skills, approximately 11-16 years of age. This age range is a guide: You know your child best, however the session will not be suitable for children under the age of 10 for safety and insurance reasons.
All activities are led by a qualified science teacher, fully risk assessed and DBS checked.

The experiments in this month's hands on science sessions for home educated children all look very similar, because we were exploring different types of electric circuits, how current flows through circuits, and what causes resistance (and heat!) โก๏ธ
As usual I completely forgot to take many photos because we were all having too much fun learning to make and problem-solve circuits ๐จโ๐ง๐ฉโ๐ง
Now I need to decide on March's topic... Let me know what you'd like to see!

Bring your budding Scientists and Engineers for an hour of hands-on science exploration during half term!
We will go on a STEMventure through some of the stranger experiments in science through a range of science experiments such as pinhole cameras, fluffy slime and more, with ideas given for how to continue exploring at home!
Each session is run by a DBS-checked, qualified Science teacher. All experiments are suitable for children aged 4 - 11 years old, with safety equipment and instructions provided.
There are two sessions to choose from in Bournemouth on 18th February. To book visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/stemventures-ltd and select your time.

I'm excited to announce that the next Hands On Science session for home educated children will be Exploring Electricity โก๏ธ๐
In this session we will conduct a range of activities and experiments to investigate how we can understand and measure current and potential difference (voltage) in electric circuits.
We will also explore what affects how current flows and how different components can help make the circuits that we use in daily life. As part of the activities we will cover parts of the Resistance required practical activities for Physics iGCSE/GCSE. Safety instructions and equipment are provided ๐จโ๐ฌ๐ฉโ๐ฌ
These sessions are designed to cover Key Stage 3 & 4 levels of knowledge and skills, approximately 11-16 years of age. This age range is a guide: You know your child best, however the session will not be suitable for children under the age of 10 for safety reasons.
The activities are led by a qualified science teacher, fully risk assessed and DBS checked ๐ฉโ๐

This week's Hands-On Science with home educated children focused on Speedy Reactions ๐งช๐จ
We had great fun learning how to measure a chemical reaction, how to change a variable and compare results, how to measure masses and volumes and problem-solving! All as we carried out the classic acid and marble chips experiment โ๏ธ ๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐จโ๐ฌ
The next dates are:
3rd February - Bournemouth
6th February - Christchurch

I'm excited to announce that the next hands on Science session for home educated children is Speedy Reactions ๐งช๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐จโ๐ฌ
The theme of this session will be the rate of chemical reactions. In this session we will conduct a range of activities and experiments to investigate how we can measure chemical reactions and what affects how quickly they happen โ๏ธ๐จ
As part of the activities we will cover parts of the Rate of Reaction required practical activities for Chemistry iGCSE/GCSE. Safety instructions and equipment are provided ๐ฅฝ
