Future Star? No he is a star!!

Harry went to his first National BMX championship race at the indoor track this weekend. We went with 2 goals: 1 - to have fun and 2 - learn as much as we can about racing at national level.

The event was spread out over 3 days, with practice on Friday, round 1 on Saturday and round 2 on Sunday.

Harry was nervous about riding on such a big stage, but managed his nerves well. Each round consists of qualifying races (motos) and then knock out finals with the first four of each race of 8 going through.

Harry had a great start and won his first moto. First national, first race, first place! This built his confidence for the rest of the weekend. Day 1 he reached the semi finals, Day 2 he reached the quarter finals. His current national ranking is 20th. Which is amazing for his first race at this level.

Harry achieved both his goals, it was great fun and while there was also lots to learn for future races he also learnt that he deserved to be there.

Red Nose Day 2022

Many thanks to all those that stayed to watch the epic battle between Team Tait (Amateurs) and Teams BAPS (Professionals). Sadly it was not a close affair despite Mr Tait writing the rules and trying to bribe the umpires!

Team BAPS ran away with a 5-1 win!

However.... BREAKING NEWS!!!

There has been an appeal lodged by the secretary of Team Tait.

Rule 34.5 states all teams must declare the colour of the bibs 24hrs prior to kick off. Team Tait played to the rules and made officials aware last Friday. Team BAPS however did not declare their colour until 5 minutes before the start of the game! As per rule 46.8 this results in a 5 point handicap and deduction from final score total.

This means Team Tait win the contest 1-0!!!

Congratulations to Team Tait who clearly played by the rules.

Until next time....

Ofsted Report February 2022

I am very pleased to attach the final Ofsted report following the inspection held on 2nd and 3rd February 2022. As you will see from the report, Bishop Aldhelm’s CE Primary School continues to be rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted. I am incredibly proud of the report and I’m sure you will be too. Please take time to read and share with the wider community.

We are really pleased that the inspectors recognised what Bishop Aldhelm’s is all about and captured this within the opening paragraphs of the report.

Bishop Aldhelm's CE 's Bishop Aldhelm's CE Primary - Red Nose Day 2022

‘Red Nose Day’ – Friday 18th March 2022
Whether you fundraise, buy, or donate, you can help people live free from poverty, violence and discrimination. This includes funding organisations that are supporting people right now in Ukraine, and those attempting to cross the border. You can make a difference. Because you have the power to change lives.

On this day, we will be having a m***i day where the children can come to school in non-school uniform. Red noses (painted or shop bought) are also welcome!

A few children have asked if they can dress in blue and Yellow to show solidarity with Ukraine, which we think is a great idea especially as some of the Comic Relief money will be going to help the Ukrainian refugees. So please do let your children come dressed in blue and yellow next Friday if you can.

We would also like to invite the children to come to school prepared with their favourite jokes to share with their classes throughout the day. They can either remember these jokes to tell or bring in their own joke books. If you are feeling creative, why not have a go at creating a video of you telling a joke with props at home and sending this into your class teacher to share on the day!
We will conclude the day with a staff netball match. Bishop Aldhelm's has a resident Netball Team that plays in a local league. Mr Tait has pulled together a team to challenge them to a mighty match up! This should provide great entertainment for all that choose to stay and watch! In recognition of taking part in this day, please consider making a donation to our PSA Just Giving page. Please follow this link (or scan the OR code) to donate. We have set a target of £300 this year – let’s see if we can get above that!
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bishop-aldhelm-s-ce-primary-school7

As per our charitable giving policy, half of the money raised for this occasion will go towards our PSA and the other half will go to Comic Relief where you will be supporting vulnerable people and communities in the UK and internationally.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Our children are great at looking at ways to support various charities - raising money for different events. As a school we are looking to show case this and some of our children will set up a 'Popup' Sales Table on a Friday after school to sell items that they have made and/or recycled.

This Friday 18th March 2022 we have a group of Year 6 girls that will be selling school coloured hair bands - all in line with school uniform policy.

Profits will go towards the Ukraine Appeal.

Good luck girls!!!

Ukrainian Refugees

We are well aware that in our school community the invasion of Ukraine is being discussed and a lot of families are finding different ways to donate items to a range of charities and businesses who are taking them across to help Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
New charities and fundraisers are being set up all the time and we have taken the decision as a school to not set up something specific but to signpost you to UNICEF, whose "Rights of a Child" we follow in our school as we are a rights respecting school.

So, as some people in our community have asked, if you would like to make a donation to help Ukrainian refugees, we are suggesting a monetary donation to UNICEF on the link below OR, if you would prefer to donate essential items, we will be having a collection at the front of the school on Friday 11th March 2022 8:30am to 9am.

The children never fail to impress us all with their fantastic dress up efforts (thank you parents/carers), books they brought in and shared and work they produced throughout the day. Thank you to the amazing staff that shared extracts from their favourite books during our whole school worship and also all of their wonderful efforts with book related costumes (we definitely all know now NOT to upset Mrs Moxam - that's for sure!)
It was truly a great day and really showed BAP's LOVE of reading. We truly are all readers!

Yesterday, Year 6 had two different guests as part of their RE Creation unit this half term. David from Dorset Humanists came to talk about what Humanists believe about the origins of the universe and he was joined by Father Pip who explained his beliefs too. The children then asked them some very challenging questions such as 'What came before God?' 'What made the big bang happen?' 'How accurate Genesis is?' and 'Do you think that all versions (from different religions) can be complementary?' The children enjoyed hearing about the different beliefs and questioning David and Father Pip.

Dear Parent/Carer

Following advice from BCP council and Hamwic Education Trust (our academy provider), Bishop Aldhelm's CE Primary School will be closed tomorrow due to storm Eunice. This decision has been made in consultation with the schools in our Greenway partnership and in light of other local schools making a similar decision to close.

The reason for this decision has been made is to ensure the safety of all our children and staff. The amber weather warning has been escalated in some areas to a red warning and winds in Poole are estimated to between 93 and 97 miles per hours at drop off time.

Work will be uploaded onto Google Classroom for the children to complete in the morning and this will be monitored by staff who will be working remotely.

Stay safe and once the weather has calmed I do hope you enjoy your half term break.

Kind Regards.

Mr Tait
