We are Bournemouth's 'cathedral choir'. A modern professional choral foundation in Bournemouth's busy town centre. Choristers, lay clerks, and parish choir.

Duncan visited The Epiphany School yesterday lunchtime to talk to their Year 5 and 6 singers about choristership. It's a lovely school, a very calm and friendly environment. Their choir of more than sixty children is flourishing under Simon Woodley (who's a former St. Peter's chorister) and they were confident in standing in front of their friends and singing for me. I heard some really good voices - and I hope that a few of them will be trying on the famous purple cassocks at St. Peter's for the first time in September.

(It was also more than 30 degrees. If you look closely, you'll see my jacket starting to melt around the edges!)

We've got another busy week ahead!

On Sunday we welcome Bøler Skolekor of Oslo (pictured) who are joining our lay clerks and choristers to sing at the 10am Sung Eucharist. After coffee and cake, they're giving a short concert too. Do come at 10 and stay to hear them!

That's followed during the week with lay clerk auditions, school visits to talk about choristership to musicians in Years 5 and 6, and some opportunities to talk about the role our choir can play in the cultural and civic life of the town.

Our senior choristers after evensong at Salisbury yesterday. Tired but happy! What a great day. Thanks again to the Royal School of Church Music for their support for children's voices.

Our senior choristers are having a fantastic day out in Salisbury rehearsing with the adult singers of the Royal School of Church Music Voices West. On the hottest day of the year - and it's at least 30 degrees 🥵 - they'll be enjoying the cool of the cathedral while singing Evensong later.

The music will be by William Smith, Bryan Kelly, Gustav Holst and Joseph Twist.

A big thank you to George Castle, Josh Hutchinson and Sarah King for the invitation, and to David Fawcett for leading the initative.

This weekend, our sister church of St. Stephen's is holding their May music and liturgy festival for the first time in six years. It's highly recommended! There are concerts on all three days, and the choir of St. Matthew's Westminster is singing for the services including 4pm Choral Evensong each day. Admission for everything is free.

Hot on the heels of our recent adverts for choristers and Song Squad MD, we're also looking for two lay clerks, a TENOR and a BASS. Three Sunday mornings a month plus the usual festivals, occasional concerts etc. Fee per engagement.

You need to be a good singer, experienced in this sort of thing with good tone and blend, confident in holding your part, a strong music-reader and comfortable with sight-reading and self-preparation. You'll be joining a friendly professional group whose repertoire in the last few weeks has covered Palestrina, Victoria, Howells, Fauré, Lotti, Byrd, Ola Gjeilo, Schubert, Ghislaine Reece-Trapp, and Britten amongst others.
