SoundStorm is the award winning music education agency for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) and a lead partner in the consortium music hub covering BCP, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton - the South Coast Music Partnership We work with young people, schools, music leaders, partner organisations, venues and many more to collectively develop the widest music education offer we can. Our work has inclusion at its core. We work in schools and the wider community; plus regionally, nationally and internationally on certain initiatives. Over 300,000 participants and at least 800,000 audience members have been involved in our work over the years. Their involvement has been through workshops, concerts, special projects, community choirs, festivals, annual conferences, skills development sessions and much more…

SoundStorm is a lead consortium partner of the South Coast Music Partnership (DfE / Arts Council funded Music Hub), which incorporates BCP, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton - one of 43 music hubs nationally across England. We are also a Young Sounds UK Connector Hub, one of a network of 20 hubs nationwide.

The Music Club, supported by SoundStorm, is back this Tuesday 6 October at Chaplin’s Cellar Bar in Boscombe and will be meeting twice a month alternately in Boscombe and Christchurch. It’s a wonderful space for young people aged 12-17 to meet other young musicians, form bands and get performance experience. It’s open to all standards.

We hope all our schools and Hub partners have had a fantastic start to the new academic year! SoundStorm events are really kicking into top gear from early October with mass orchestra training days with Enyi Okpara, a day of CPD for our Primary Music Leads and colleagues visiting school Inclusion Bases with Alex Lupo and Emily Barden. We also have school tours with Rhythm Generation, Live Music Now and our own curated Live & Inspired for 2026-7, plus a social for our secondary teachers! This is alongside all our regular activity. Half term is going to be here before we know it!

Musical Director required to conduct and rehearse wind bands for a Saturday morning music centre in Christchurch during term time. It focuses primarily on young people and the role is to start in January 2027.

The candidate will have musical experience with wind bands, ideally education, and a music degree.

Applications for Creative Ensemble 2026/7 sessions are now OPEN!

When? Sessions will take place on Saturdays: 10th October, 14th November, 9th January, 13th February, 13th March and 8th May from 10:30am-3pm (for members and non-members) and on Saturday 12th June (rehearsal from 10:30am-3pm and concert to take place in late afternoon, exact time tbc – for members only).

What is it? An ensemble led by musicians from the SoundStorm team. Open to all musicians on any instrument, including voice. All standards are welcome, from beginner to expert.

Where? Magna Academy, Ashdown Close, Poole, Dorset, BH17 8RE

Who can participate? Young people aged 10-17. You don’t need to be able to read music; everything will be learnt by ear.
