Did you know? In France, we don't say "Happy Bastille Day"!
While 14th July is often called Bastille Day in English-speaking countries, in France, it's simply known as "le 14 juillet" or "la fête nationale."
The day commemorates the Fête de la Fédération in 1790 - a celebration of national unity one year after the storming of the Bastille, not the storming itself.
So, if you are learning French or sharing well wishes, say:
Bonne fête nationale 🇨🇵

Learning a language means learning the culture, too!

In France, the 1st of May or la Fête du travail is a bank holiday. We celebrate workers' rights and offer un brin de muguet (sprig of lily of the valley) to our loved ones as a lucky charm.
