UK Skilled Worker Visa Changes
- Effective 22 July 2025
Summary of Key Changes
1. No More “New Entrant” Discount
The lower salary threshold for new entants (recent graduates. under 26, eic.) will be abolished.
Everyone must meet the full SIl Skilled Worker salary requirement.
Example: A recent Master’s graduate will no longer benefit from lower salary thresholds.
2. Single Salary Threshold Introduced
A new standard salary threshold of £88700/year will apply, or the full “going rate” for the job (whichever is higher.
No more salary reductions based on age or experience.
Example. If the role’s going rate is £41.500/year, that’s the minimum required.
3. Care Workers/Senior Care Workers Removed from Skilled Worker List
These roles will be removed from Skilled Worker eligible occupation list.-No new applications or renewals will-all-
4. Temporary Shortage Occupation List (TSOL)
A new TSQL will allow sponsorship for certain RQF Level 3-5 roles (e g., care workers, trades) until end of 2026.
Conditions include
No dependants
Temporary visa only
Employer must submit a workforce training plan
Likely no path to settlement Vlame may alored will be removed after 2026.
7. Pathway to Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain)
Much harder for care workers after the changes.
You cannot renew your visa in 2028 if their role is removed
You must switch to an eligible RQF Level 6+ job
You must be sponsored continuously for 5 years
