Did you know...?

French is the second most widely learned foreign language after English, and the fifth most widely spoken language in the world.
French is also the only language, alongside English, that is taught in every country in the world.

GCSE and A-level exams in Wales cancelled for 2021 10/11/2020

If exams are cancelled, teacher assessed grades are a good alternative, in my opinion, but it does mean students need to work throughout the year to demonsrate their abilities.

I hope the government makes an announcement to give clarity for all students across the UK.

If your child needs extra support in French, contact me about tutoring.

Learning another language can help you to look at things from a different perspective. It's interesting to think about how France is dealing with lockdown 2 at the moment.

'le confinement' is the French word for lockdown and on 30th October France went into 'reconfinement.'
The end of the second French lockdown is planned for 1st December but may be extended beyond then.
Many of the restrictions in France are similar to ours; schools are open and universities offer most lectures online, people can go out to do their grocery shopping and where possible working from home (le télétravail) is encouraged.

In contrast, French people are only allowed to travel within 1km of their home for exercise for one hour per day and can be fined 135 Euros for breaking the rules.

Another big difference is that they need to complete a form to justify their reason for leaving the house e.g. for work, for essential shopping or for school.

It's worth thinking about whether you consider that idea to be a restriction on a person's freedom or a necessary and useful way to control the virus.
