Yesterday I had a lovely walk near the village of Throop taking in a lovely section of the River Stour. I was mainly hoping to see a hobby and managed to spot one sat on a distant tree.

I popped by the Poole peregrines this morning, didn't spot any of this year's juveniles but both adults were present. There was lots of prey debris on the ground including this common redshank head. Other recent prey found includes Golden Plover, Water Rail, Woodcock, Fieldfare, Redwing, Avocet, Dunkin, Knot and Common Tern!

I spent today on the Kingston Lacey estate, first walking around Badbury Rings and then visiting the house and gardens. Lots of good insects today and a few nice birds too!

Back out into nature for the first day of the summer holidays and great to see loads of beautiful butterflies at Longham Lakes

Yesterday I went to Kingston Common on the edge of Ringwood. It's a beautiful spot that isn't visited a great deal! The highlight was a Great White Egret in summer plumage- this species is becoming an increasingly common winter visitor but no-one has told this one that it is supposed to migrate!

Nice to see (and hear) some tree pipits at Avon Heath Country Park today. Also a pair of Dartford Warblers, plenty of stonechats and a couple of small coppers.

One of the local foxes spotted prowling around last. I'm a big fan of our local vulpines and get to see plenty of them as Bournemouth has the highest concentration of urban foxes in the UK.

A lovely evening stroll around Stour Valley Local Nature Reserve with so much birdsong. Great to see some lapwings displaying over the farmland on the far side of the river.
