There is no point trying to guide, redirect, or challenge a young person who does not feel safe with you yet.

This is not about lowering standards. It is about understanding the order of things. When a young person trusts the adults around them, they become open to learning, to trying, to getting it wrong and trying again.

Connection is always the first step at Wild Minds.

Young people do not change because of a programme. They change because of a person.

We match each young person to consistent practitioners from the start. Not just for routine, but because the relationship itself is what makes growth possible. Safety, trust, and genuine connection are not a nice backdrop to the work. They are the work.

Wild Minds accepts referrals for young people who require specialist, part-time Alternative Provision or post-16 support. Places are available for September with a rolling start. Share this link with your school or EHCO so they can complete the referral form directly: www.wildminds.pro/referrals

End of a long term at the farm.

There is something about the horses at Wild Minds at golden hour that captures exactly what this place is about.

For our young people, time spent caring for and being alongside our horses builds something genuinely valuable. Confidence. Calm. Responsibility. And a connection with another living being that is honest, consistent, and built on trust.

Wishing everyone a restful summer.

Not everyone arrives here ready to trust. But sometimes, all it takes is the right introduction.

Our African Spotted Eagle Owl is one of the most striking residents at Wild Minds. For our young people, learning to observe, respect, and understand a bird like this builds a different kind of awareness. You learn to read body language, to move calmly, and to understand that trust between a person and an animal is earned, never assumed.

Animal-assisted learning at Wild Minds is welfare-led, consent-based, and guided by experienced practitioners at every stage.

Regulation is not something you can teach from a dysregulated state.

When the adults in a room are genuinely settled, something shifts. Young people whose nervous systems are on high alert pick it up. They do not know why, but the environment starts to feel safer.

This is why our farm setting, small groups, and consistent practitioners are not just nice to have. They are the foundation of everything we do.

Calm is something you create. And once it is there, it spreads. Co regulation is key.

Every young person we work with has been told at some point that they are the problem. That if they just tried harder, behaved better, or fit the mould, things would work out.

We do not believe that.

When a young person is not thriving, it is nearly always because the environment, the approach, or the relationships around them are not the right fit. Our job is to change the route, not reduce the expectation.

Wild Minds accepts referrals for young people who require specialist, part-time Alternative Provision or post-16 support. Places are available for September with a rolling start. Share this link with your school or EHCO so they can complete the referral form directly: www.wildminds.pro/referrals

Someone is making the most of the summer break.

Bernard, our Large Black Pig, is a firm favourite at Wild Minds and proof that farm life comes with its own kind of character.

For our young people, working alongside animals like Bernard builds something that cannot be taught from a textbook. Patience, empathy, care, and a genuine understanding of what good animal welfare looks like in practice.

A quiet moment on the farm today. 🐴

Sometimes the calm starts here, before the learning, before the support, before the hard day feels a little more manageable.

Our farm environment gives young people space to regulate, connect and build trust with a team who understands SEND, SEMH and school avoidance.
