On Friday 9 October, we will be marking World Mental Health Day in school.
World Mental Health Day takes place every year on 10 October. As this falls on a Saturday this year, we will be coming together in school on Friday to recognise the importance of looking after our mental health and supporting one another.
This yearโs message is:
๐ฑ โLived experiences heard: real voices, real change.โ
๐ Why green?
Green is the international colour associated with mental health awareness. Wearing green is a way of showing support, raising awareness and reminding others that mental health is just as important as physical health.
๐ Why yellow?
We will also be celebrating , a campaign led by YoungMinds. Yellow is used to show young people that they are not alone and that it is important to talk, listen and support one another.
๐ What can my child wear?
This is not a non-uniform day, so pupils should continue to wear their usual school uniform.
Instead, we are inviting pupils to add a touch of green or yellow if they would like to.
๐๐ Green or yellow socks
๐๐ A ribbon or hair accessory
๐๐ A badge
๐๐ A green or yellow accessory
There is absolutely no pressure to buy anything new.A small splash of colour is more than enough, and pupils who do not wish to take part can simply wear their usual uniform.
Throughout the day, we will be taking part in simple, age-appropriate activities focusing on feelings, wellbeing, kindness and looking after ourselves and each other.
๐๐ Optional donations
If families would like to make a voluntary donation to YoungMinds, you can donate through the official YoungMinds donation page below. When donating, you can select that your donation is for and that it is being made on behalf of a school.
There is no expectation to donate โ taking part in the day and helping us raise awareness is just as valuable. ๐๐
Thank you for helping us create a positive and supportive school community where every pupil knows that their voice matters, their feelings matter and they are not alone.
