First Aid at Work vs Emergency First Aid at Work — what’s the difference?

Not sure which workplace first aid course you need? Here’s a quick breakdown.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
A 1-day course designed to give employees the essential skills to respond to common workplace emergencies. It covers key lifesaving skills such as CPR, using an AED, dealing with choking, bleeding, shock and other common first-aid situations.

First Aid at Work (FAW)
A more comprehensive 3-day course covering everything in EFAW, along with a wider range of first-aid situations and more in-depth practical training. It’s suitable for workplaces that require a more comprehensive level of first-aid provision.

So, which one do you need?
This depends on factors such as the size and type of your workplace, the hazards involved and your first-aid needs assessment.

Meet the Team: David

David's journey in the manual handling industry began back in 1986, when he started driving forklift trucks in the food manufacturing sector. Over the years, he expanded his skills from counterbalance and reach trucks to gaining his HGV Class 1 licence, delivering goods across the UK.

With decades of hands-on experience behind him, David became a qualified instructor in 2018, sharing his knowledge and helping others develop safe, confident operating skills.

David joined the CoLa team in 2022—and we've been proud to have his wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and real-world experience supporting our customers ever since.

Some of the most popular training courses here at CoLa Training is our Driver CPC Training.

If you drive professionally as a PCV or LGV driver, you are legally required to complete 35 hours of Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training every 5 years to maintain your Driver Qualification Card (DQC).

Our modular CPC courses are designed to help you achieve the required hours while keeping your skills and knowledge up to date.

Please note that under the current CPC rules:

* Modules cannot be repeated within the same 5-year period.
* Forklift refresher training no longer counts towards CPC hours.

Meet the Team: Nathan

Today, we’re introducing Nathan, one of the valued members of the CoLa Training Services team.

Nathan is the youngest son of our Managing Director, Stephen. Outside of work, Nathan enjoys spending time with his family, being a proud husband and father of two, as well as staying involved in a variety of sports.

After leaving college with qualifications in catering and becoming a chef, Nathan spent 10 years working in the catering industry before taking on a new challenge. He volunteered at a school and sports projects in a township outside Cape Town, South Africa, gaining valuable life experience and developing skills that continue to influence his approach today.

On returning to the UK, Nathan joined a local flower production company, where he gained extensive experience across production, stock control, intake, packaging, logistics, and dispatch. During this time, he operated a wide range of MHE equipment and worked with numerous customers and couriers, building a strong understanding of workplace operations and safety.

Nathan joined CoLa Training Services in 2016, bringing with him the practical knowledge and experience gained from factory environments and incorporating these skills into his training style.

Today, Nathan instructs and examines a wide range of MHE equipment, from pallet trucks through to rough terrain telescopic handlers. He also delivers training across First Aid, Fire Safety, Food Safety, Driver CPC, Manual Handling, and continues to develop his skills to expand his training portfolio.

We’re proud to have Nathan as part of the CoLa Training Services team, helping learners build confidence, competence, and workplace safety skills.

We are very much a family run business here at CoLa Training, Adam is the eldest son of our MD Stephen.

Adam is a married father of two, and spends his spare time with his family, playing rugby or volunteering with the charity LIVES as a community first responder.
