An incredible array of student artwork was exhibited at a public artwork art exhibition last month. The weekend event took place at The Sessions House in Spalding and featured works from our talented student artists as well as over 40 other local and established artists and sculptors.

This was a fantastic showcase of the diverse range of artwork our students produce with paintings, drawings, textiles, collages and sculptures that had been specially selected from the KS3, KS4 and KS5 students at Bourne Academy, Cowley Academy, Giles Academy and Spalding Academy.

It was an amazing opportunity for students from each of our schools to feature together at an exhibition for the first time and highlight the many styles and techniques taught on the art curriculum.

The feedback over both days was overwhelmingly positive as staff from the art department and our student artists were also in attendance to speak to members of the public as over 1,000 people visited the exhibition.

Rt Hon Sir John Hayes CBE MP attended the event and he said “What a wonderful array of works of art. They epitomised the marriage of unfettered imagination and outstanding talent. Thank you for giving me and many others so much pleasure.”

Being able to effectively communicate and speak in French is a key part of the GCSE and A-level curriculum, so for students having the chance to fully immerse themselves in French culture and language can play an important role in their learning.

To help prepare Year 11 and Year 13 students for their summer French speaking examinations, the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department organised an incredible opportunity to visit Paris during the Easter holidays. The four-day trip included students from all four schools in the Trust and the SLAT Sixth Form at Bourne Academy.

This amazing cultural experience definitely helped our students gain confidence and practice their French skills in an authentic setting. They were encouraged to communicate with Parisians throughout the trip, such as when ordering food and drinks in French and by conducting interviews with the locals.

Paris is packed full of historic landmarks and students were able to climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower to appreciate the incredible views across the capital city plus admire the iconic Arc de Triomphe and recently restored Notre Dame.

They visited the Market rue de Mouffetard to discover fresh produce, meat and seafood, took a boat cruise down the River Seine, navigated their way on the Paris Metro, danced to live music at the Sacre Coeur and saw the Mona Lisa and other works of art at the Louvre.

One of the many highlights was being able to feast on traditional French dishes and delicacies, with several students bravely trying escargots (snails) and les cuisses de grenouille (frog legs).

Thank you to the Modern Foreign Languages department for organising this unforgettable trip to Paris. All the students demonstrated their willingness to embrace new experiences and we hope the trip has given them the desire and confidence to visit France again in the future.

Our Under 13 Boys Football Team delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Spalding Grammar School and lift the Superzone Football Final trophy, capping off a superb and hard-fought campaign.

On their way to the final, the team consistently produced impressive results by overcoming Thomas Middlecott Academy, Haven High Academy, Cowley Academy and William Lovell Academy. Each victory showcased the squad’s growing confidence, resilience and quality.

The final was played at Spalding United FC on their state-of-the-art FIFA Quality artificial grass pitch, and proved to be a thrilling contest from start to finish. Giles made a dream start, racing into a 2–0 lead through well-taken goals from Lucas Ogden and Daylen Richardson, putting early pressure on Spalding.

Spalding responded strongly levelling the score at 2-2 and setting up a tense second half. Giles regained the lead at 3–2, with Daylen Richardson grabbing his second goal of the match, only for Spalding to equalise in dramatic fashion forcing a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Sam Whyler was our heroic goalkeeper making an excellent save to deny Spalding with their opening penalty, swinging momentum firmly in our favour. Albie Daniels, Rocco Motson, Lucas Ogden and Alfie Sargeant then all stepped up with confidence, calmly converting their penalties to seal an outstanding victory.

Mr Dodd, Head of PE said "The win was a true team effort, showcasing resilience, composure under pressure and excellent character throughout both the match and the competition as a whole. Lifting the Superzone title is a fantastic achievement for the players and a fitting reward for their hard work, commitment and teamwork."

Our Under 14 Girls Netball Team ended their season on the ultimate high as they were crowned the Superzone Netball Champions after defeating Bourne Grammar School 16-15 in an incredibly tense final.

Both teams entered the fixture having won their respective leagues to see who will come out as the top team in the area. On the way to the final, Giles Academy had won all four of their matches scoring an incredible 86 goals and only conceded 5 goals.

From the first whistle, the match was end-to-end as both sides produced outstanding attacking play and fierce defensive pressure. The girls started strongly leading the first quarter by 7-2 and they kept themselves in front at the end of each quarter by showing remarkable composure and resilience. They held their nerves right up until the end by securing a dramatic one goal victory and claim the Superzone title.

This was a phenomenal achievement and a brilliant reflection of the team’s growth, determination and togetherness. The Players Player of the Match as selected by the opposition was Florence Mackay.

Mrs Cooper, Teacher of PE and all of the PE staff are immensely proud of the team and also deserve credit for bringing this special group of students together.
