Mock Trial: The Verdict

Court was in session at Hugh Baird University Centre! 👩‍⚖️

We welcomed local sixth-form students for an interactive morning exploring the role of a judge, how court proceedings work and the real-world impact of criminal convictions.

The highlight? A live mock trial based on a cyberbullying case, brought to life by our Year 1 Criminology students, who took on the roles involved in the case before reaching a verdict. 🏛️

From exploring the courtroom to seeing criminology theory put into practice, it was a fantastic opportunity to experience the subject beyond the classroom and discover what studying Criminology at Hugh Baird University Centre has to offer.

A huge well done to our students for bringing the courtroom to life! 👏

Our Level 3 learners recently took part in an interactive enrichment session led by Adam Roberts from Howdens Joinery and Lewis Kenny, a former Hugh Baird College student and now a designer at Howdens

The session gave learners a chance to explore the kitchen design process and create plans for a kitchen that will soon be installed in one of our workshops. Experiences like this are a fantastic way to connect classroom learning with industry practice.

The feedback from our learners was incredibly positive, with many highlighting the value of gaining insight directly from professionals working in the trade. A huge thank you to Adam and Lewis for inspiring our students. 🔨

This week, our University Centre students had the opportunity to take part in informative sessions delivered by SWACA (Sefton Women and Children’s Aid).

The sessions introduced students to domestic violence and safeguarding, helping them to develop a greater understanding of these important issues and the support available to those affected. The valuable sessions provided our students with knowledge and awareness that will support them both in their studies and beyond.

A huge thank you to SWACA for joining us and sharing your expertise with our students.
