SS Osmund and Andrew’s Year 5 children visited Bolton School on Chorley Road to take part in a primary school science competition on Wednesday 10th June 2026. There were primary schools represented from all over Bolton that attended the event.
They won first prize!
The children did an amazing job acting as forensic scientists investigating who stole the Mystery Incorporated movie night snacks. Children had to complete investigations such as: fingerprint examinations, chemical power analysis, blood tests and microscopic fibre examinations. Bolton School commented on their scientific discussions and deduction skills. Well done to you all!

Mrs Doyle held our first Book & Biscuit Club for children in Y5 & Y6 on Tuesday. All the children enjoyed talking about and reading their favourite books. We have ordered lots of new books to read over the next few weeks and of course, we enjoyed the chocolate biscuits!

Phonics Screening Check Week:
This week, our Year 1 children, along with some of our Year 2 pupils, will be taking part in the Phonics Screening Check.
Over the course of the year, the children have shown great enthusiasm, perseverance, and commitment as they have developed their phonics knowledge and early reading skills. The screening check provides an opportunity for them to demonstrate the progress they have made and celebrate their achievements as growing readers.
At SS Osmund and Andrew’s, we recognise and value the unique gifts of every child. We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and determination they show each day. Success is not only measured by results, but by the confidence to keep learning and to always give their very best.
We ask our school family and parish community to keep our children in their prayers this week as they continue to grow in knowledge, confidence and faith.
“The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

On Thursday, Y6 had a great afternoon for the National Festival of Fieldwork, linked to Geography. We used Digimaps on the iPads to look at OS maps of our area to see if the street names could be grouped. We found out of lot of interesting information and loved finding out about where we live!

We have had a fantastic turnout at Rosary Club every lunchtime throughout May at SS Osmund & Andrews.
Yesterday was extra special as the children successfully prayed the whole Rosary together, including the Apostles’ Creed, Our Father, Glory Be, many Hail Mary's, and the Hail Holy Queen prayer.
May is a very special month dedicated to Mary, and it has been wonderful to see so many pupils coming together in prayer, reflection, and faith each lunchtime. We are incredibly proud of their reverence, enthusiasm, and commitment.
Well done to everyone who has taken part in Rosary Club this month and thank you to Mrs Jones for leading the club for the children.
