Year 6 have been having such a wonderful first few weeks of the year! We all walked up Winter Hill, have had some lovely visitors and of course have been trying hard with all of our work.

Year 3 Horse Chestnuts have been learning all about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks and the processes that form them. We then put our learning into practice by creating our very own trace fossils using clay and toy dinosaurs. The children carefully pressed and moved the dinosaurs through the clay to create footprints and traces, just like those that may have been left behind millions of years ago! If you see the Horse Chestnuts around, be sure to ask them all about it!

Buttercups had a wonderful time in forest school last week. We explored the woods, played hide and seek, hunted for the squirrels’ acorns and listened to a lovely story. We ended the session with a well-deserved hot chocolate and biscuit around the campfire.

As part of our National Poetry Day learning in Nursery 3s Snowdrops, we worked together to make 'Silly Soup'. We found rhyming pairs and added them to our soup to support our understanding of rhyme as we sang our silly soup song.

National Poetry Day

Yesterday, we celebrated National Poetry Day, with this year’s theme of ‘Wonder’. Across school, we have been reflecting on what wonder means to us and how it connects to our lives, our learning and the world around us.

This year’s theme had particularly strong links to our school vision and Bible verse, and it was wonderful to see how many of our children’s poems demonstrated such a deep-rooted understanding of our vision, values and the importance of being responsible citizens of the world.

Our poetry recital in the hall was a truly inspiring experience. The children shared their poems with confidence, creativity and enthusiasm, encouraging us all to think about ourselves not only as writers, but as individuals who can make a difference in our world.

Miss Bottomley and Mrs Woodward were incredibly impressed by the children’s confidence when performing, as well as the range of poetic styles and devices they used to bring their words to life.
What a wonderful celebration of poetry, creativity and the power of our children’s voices! ✨
