Today’s a bittersweet celebration.

Firstly, it’s my 40th birthday!

I’m having a great day and I’ve been thoroughly spoiled.

But!

I would rather not be 40 just yet! I’m still 25 really, right? 😂

This made me think more deeply about what else today marks…

My final sessions with Year 11!

I have loved teaching all my amazing students this year and I am so proud of the progress they have all made.

I’m excited for their next chapter, and looking forward to all the success stories on results day.

But!

I will miss them all! Some of my students have been with me for years so it really is a bittersweet feeling today.

So as I say goodbye to all my fabulous Year 11s today, I wish you all the luck in the world for your futures.

And I hold on to the thought of being able to see the same transformation in the next round of students next year!

💬 Does your child know what’s being assessed on each question?

When it comes to Shakespeare, so many students think they need to learn so many quotations, that they may as well have learned the full text!

Focus on:
✔️ Key moments
✔️ Key quotes
✔️ Clear understanding

This is a much better approach to ensuring in depth exploration of the key theme/character, and hitting all the bullet points on the mark scheme.

A common misconception with descriptive writing is that students need to cover as much of the image or scenario as possible.

In reality, this often leads to weaker responses.

When students try to describe everything:

• Ideas become rushed
• Details stay surface-level
• Writing lacks impact

Stronger responses take a different approach.

They focus on just three or four carefully chosen details and develop them fully.

This allows students to:
✔️ Build atmosphere
✔️ Use more precise vocabulary
✔️ Create a clearer emotional response

For example, instead of describing an entire busy street, a student might focus on:

• A single character
• A specific sound
• One striking image
• An emotion/thought

Depth always beats breadth in descriptive writing.

As the final exams are looming, I have put together 2 focused and strategic online revision days for English Language to give your child the best chance of success in the exams.
Each day will be jam packed with useful tips and advice, clear strategies, and time to practise what they learn.
The sessions include:
• A full recap of all the questions on the paper
• Approaches to planning and writing each question
• Model responses
• Practise questions
• Live feedback for all students on their work
• Grade boosting top tips
• Opportunity to ask those all-important last minute questions
Your child will also receive a digital workbook and access to all resources used throughout the day.
The courses will run as follows
Language Paper 1 will be on Sunday 17th May 9am-4pm.
Language Paper 2 will be on Saturday 30th May 9am-4pm.
There will be a one hour break from 12pm for lunch each day, and a couple of 10 minute breaks otherwise.
The cost for each day will be £80 (that’s less than £11.50 an hour).
If you purchase both days, it will be discounted to £150 for both (just £10.71 an hour!).
