A wonderful afternoon of cricket, camaraderie and connection at this year's Mervyn Brooker Memorial Cricket Match.
It was a pleasure to welcome alumni from across the decades back to the Levels to play alongside current pupils, continuing a tradition that celebrates both a shared love of cricket and lasting ties with Bolton School.
Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a success.

This year marks 50 years since the launch of the Open Doors Campaign in 1976, when our Alumni community first joined together in support of the belief that the doors to Bolton School must remain open to all who would thrive here. Remarkably, many of those who began supporting our bursary programme all those years ago continue to do so, demonstrating the enduring power of collective philanthropy.
Today, our Open Futures Campaign shares that same, powerful ambition: to ensure that a Bolton School education remains open to every bright child with potential, regardless of their family's circumstances. Our goal remains to see one in three pupils in our senior schools receiving bursarial support.
As we reflect on the impact Bolton School has had on generations of pupils and the opportunities it has created, we are proud to share three stories of lives transformed through the generosity of our community. The transformative impact highlighted by Amelia, Leon and Helen shows how the collective support of many can make a profound difference. Watch the new video here https://ow.ly/95sf50Z7GwG
50 years on, there is still much to do to be able to offer needs-blind financial support to one in three senior school pupils. Every gift, conversation and endorsement from our Alumni community helps ensure that future generations can benefit from the same opportunities that so many of us remember and value so fondly.
As the Open Futures Campaign continues to build momentum, we wish to harness the power of collective giving once more and ask that you might consider joining us as we seek to significantly grow the number of regular donors supporting our bursary scheme.

A proud moment for the Old Boltonians’ Association as the Presidential Chain is passed from Barry Nightingale to David Williams.
David reflected on his long-standing connection with the Association, from attending his first Old Boys’ Dinner as School Captain in 1998 to delivering the Tillotson Lecture in 2025, and now taking on the role of President for 2026–27.
Passionate about bringing generations of Old Boltonians together, David hopes to strengthen connections between recent leavers, alumni and the wider School community, encouraging members to share their experiences, networks and memories by “coming closer to the campfire”.
Thank you to outgoing President Barry Nightingale for his dedication and enthusiasm of the School’s mentor schemes and alumni community throughout his year in office. We look forward to seeing him support David in the year ahead.

We were delighted to present the Distinguished Service to the Old Boltonians’ Association Award to Peter Acton (Class of 1971) at yesterday’s Old Boys lunch.
Peter spoke about his long-standing connection with the OBA, which began after a chance meeting with former Head of Boys, Mr Baguley, inspired him to attend a London Dinner while at university. He later served as OBA President (2011–12) and was a founding member of the award-winning Find Your Path Mentoring Scheme, which continues to support young Old Boys in their careers.
Congratulations, Peter and thank you for your outstanding service to the OBA.
