Major SEND reform announced by the UK government. Big changes to special educational needs and disabilities support in schools. Introduction of Individual Support Plans ISPs for all pupils with SEND. EHCPs Education, Health and Care Plans remain for complex needs. Focus on inclusion, mainstream education, early intervention, statutory support, school accountability, teacher workload, SENCO role, SEND funding, national framework, education policy, DfE updates.

Half term is nearly over and that familiar feeling is creeping in… lesson planning, resource prep, curriculum pacing, assessment points, differentiation, printing, organising, and trying to make Monday run smoothly.

The first week back can set the tone for the rest of the term. Having structure in place makes such a difference, especially when workload is already high and time feels tight.

For UK teachers, school staff, maths leads and SLT teams looking to streamline planning, it helps to know what support is already available. Whether you are teaching KS1, KS2, KS3 or KS4, having ready to use maths worksheets, structured practice, and curriculum aligned content can reduce pressure and free up valuable time.

Back to school preparation does not need to mean starting from scratch. Smart planning is about using high quality teaching resources that support differentiation, retrieval practice, fluency, reasoning and problem solving without adding to teacher burnout.

If you are reviewing your maths provision this term, thinking about intervention groups, catch up support, or simply trying to make weekly planning more efficient, this is the time to explore what is already being used successfully across UK state schools.

As we head into a new half term, what is your biggest focus?
Lesson planning efficiency?
Reducing workload?
Strengthening maths outcomes?

Let’s make this term feel manageable from the very start.

Pupils often think that a longer decimal equals a bigger number.
Not because they do not understand decimals, but because they compare the length of the number instead of the place value.

The key fix is simple:
line up the decimals and compare the tenths first.

This small step can stop a lot of confusion before it starts.
👉 Save this for when you teach decimals
👉 What other decimal misconceptions do you see regularly?
