🧡ASK THE COACHES🧡
Welcome to a new monthly segment where our amazing Cutacre Running Club coaches answer some all important questions about our wonderful club, and running in general.
We kick start this session with our Chair and Coach Mel
Q. Tell us about your running and coaching experience
A. I've been coaching runners for 17 years and have loved every minute of it. Over the years I've helped complete beginners take their first steps into running, as well as supporting experienced runners chasing personal bests, marathons and even Ironman events.
I've completed lots of marathons, an ultra marathon, triathlons and countless other races. But my favourite part of coaching isn't the medals—it's seeing someone achieve something they never thought was possible.
Q. Why is Cutacre Running Club be a good club to join?
A. Cutacre Running Club is genuinely for everyone. Whether you've never run before or you're training for your next race, you'll find people who will encourage and support you. We run a C25K programme all year round, so you never have to wait for a January start. Nobody gets left behind, and every session is designed so everyone can work at their own pace while still feeling part of the group. It's not just about running either. We've built a really welcoming community where people make friends, gain confidence and enjoy getting active together.
Q. I'm worried I might hold people up. Should I still come?
A. Absolutely! This is probably the question I'm asked most, and the answer is always yes. We never leave anyone behind. Our sessions are designed so everyone can take part, whatever their pace. Whether you're running, run-walking or building up gradually, there'll always be someone with you and you'll be fully supported. Everyone starts somewhere, and every runner in our club remembers what it was like on day one.
Q. What can I expect at my first session?
A. A really warm welcome! When you arrive, we'll introduce you to everyone, explain what we're doing and make sure you know exactly what to expect. And most importantly, lots of smiles and laughter. 🧡🧡🧡

Another great week for me, being involved in Lostock AC Community projects!
This week marked the final session with our adult group, and it’s been fantastic to see how much they’ve grown in confidence over the last six weeks. I delivered the physical activity session, and it was brilliant to see everyone getting involved, giving things a go and becoming much more engaged in exercise. Janet followed with a healthy eating activity, where the group made a high-protein snack for after exercise, before getting creative by making stress balls to take home to help with relaxation.
On Friday we were back at St Peter’s CE Primary for our third session. I kept the children busy with plenty of high-energy games, including Pizza Throwing and Hills and Valleys, before Janet took over with healthy eating and a fun sports T-shirt design activity. The children loved creating their own shirts and were excited to take them home.
It’s been another brilliant week seeing so many people enjoying being active, learning new skills and having fun together.
