📚 OPEN AUDITIONS – MATILDA THE MUSICAL UK TOUR 📚
The RSC are looking for children for the UK touring production of Matilda The Musical.
Q: HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO AUDITION?
The RSC will audition children for the role of Matilda who are aged 9 to 12 on 1 July 2025, and under 4’3” tall. Her classmates need to be aged 9 to 13 on 1 July 2025. Boys must be under 4’10” tall, and girls must be under 4’6” tall, with brilliant dancing and singing skills! Boys must have unbroken voices.
Q: WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE AUDITIONS FOR MATILDA AND HER CLASSMATES?
Auditions will be held in Manchester during February and March 2025
Q: WHAT DATES DO I NEED TO BE AVAILABLE?
Rehearsals – July and August 2025, in Manchester and London
Performances – September 2025 to June 2026, on tour
All children must be available for the entire rehearsal and performance period. Holidays will only be allowed during nominated holiday weeks, and parents must be able to bring their child to the Manchester rehearsal rooms, The Palace Theatre and/or Manchester Piccadilly train station.
Q: WHAT IF I LIVE OUTSIDE MANCHESTER?
Children for all the roles must be within travelling distance of Manchester, so they can live at home and attend their own schools. You must live within one hour of central Manchester.
Q: WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO IN THE AUDITION?
You will be asked to perform a short poem, speech or monologue. You will also be asked to sing something and you will be taught a dance from the show.
Q: WHAT TO DO NEXT?
If you’d like to audition, you will need to complete an online form. Before starting the form, the RSC would like you to make two or three 30 second films on your phone. These are sometimes called a self-tape. The quality doesn’t matter, and please, no longer than 30 seconds.
1 A 30 second speech, poem or monologue
2 A 30 second song (unaccompanied)
3 A 30 second dance (optional)
