Zella Marie Tutoring - Learn to Achieve

Zella Marie Tutoring - Learn to Achieve Professional tuition with a fully qualified teacher to help your child develop academic confidence.

My name is Zella, I am a former Assistant Head Teacher and the founder of Zella Marie Tutoring. I have over 20 years’ experience of teaching in busy classrooms and, since 2018, I have been tutoring pupils in my home-based classroom to support their home or school education. My long career has equipped me with the skills to change my style of delivery according to individual needs resulting in clear pupil progress. I teach with a flexible, adaptive child-centred approach; I am both intuitive and natural in my teaching and pride myself in teaching the pupil rather than subjects. I am a firm believer that it is the teacher and the positive relationship they build with their pupils that makes the biggest difference to academic achievement. In the classroom I always had a particular interest in behaviour management and the psychology of learning. I take time to really get to know my pupils and the overriding thing they all say about lessons is that they are fun – there is a lot of learning too! It is of paramount importance to me that children want to come to our sessions. I see tutoring as an active two-way process between the pupil and myself – a child who wants to learn and engage is always more likely to achieve. Sometimes my challenge is encouraging pupils to rediscover their will and interest to learn after they have become disengaged with school, I achieve this through building a positive, supportive and encouraging relationship. The curriculum can be fast paced in schools; 1:1 tuition offers the opportunity for pupils to access and progress through the curriculum at their own pace irrespective of their year group. In our classroom, pupils are encouraged to ask questions they may not feel secure to ask in class, enabling them to develop their academic confidence. Carefully structured lessons enable pupils to tackle increasingly challenging concepts, resulting in a sense of achievement and a ‘can do’ attitude. I support children to:
*Overcome academic anxieties
*Fully comprehend new concepts
*Experience meaningful and memorable learning
*Develop academic confidence and competence
*Learn how to learn
*Relate learning to real life
*Have the time and space to explore concepts and ask questions
*Receive targeted support for a specific skill or aspect of the curriculum to enable them to progress

🐾 Happy international cat day 🐾
To celebrate, I’m sharing some photos of my furry teaching assistants, who like to pop in from time to time to supervise lessons, provide moral support and, occasionally, cause a little distraction! 🐱📚❤️

Summer lessons are in full swing here! I’m really enjoying teaching lots of familiar faces, and it’s been lovely to welcome new pupils and their families too.
Using plenty of games and fun activities (it is the holidays after all!), pupils have been busy consolidating their previous learning, building confidence, and getting ahead with skills for the next academic year.
Readopoly has once again proven to be a firm favourite, bringing lots of enthusiasm and motivation to reading practice. It’s been wonderful to see everyone’s progress while keeping lessons enjoyable and relaxed over the summer.

It's hard to believe the summer holidays are nearly here (although I'm not sure the weather got that memo!) and it's time to sort our summer sessions. A few sessions over the summer can be a lovely way to keep skills ticking over and to have a gentle introduction to next year's learning. A little learning over the holidays can make a big difference. ☀️
Lessons are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the six weeks. Booking opens 10am Saturday 13th June.
Current pupils and those on the waiting list will be sent the link via messages.

A few final photos to round off another wonderful term. 🌟

It's been so lovely to hear so many positive school reports, and a huge well done to my Year 6 pupils who have met or exceeded their expected results. I'm so proud of you all!

Thank you to all the parents for trusting me with your children. It's a real privilege to be part of their learning journey.

Finally, thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful gifts; they are truly appreciated.

Wishing you all a fantastic summer holiday! ☀️

Shout out to all those parents washing PE kits every night so it is clean for the next day - you're nearly there 😀

Today I said goodbye to my longest-ever tutee.
We started together when he was in Year 2, navigated lockdown with Zoom lessons; worked our way through Key Stage 2, and now he's heading into Year 9 a very confident and capable young man. It's hard to believe how quickly the years have flown by and teaching him has been such a privilege. Our English lessons were filled with plenty of laughs, his brilliant sense of humour, and the occasional fiercely competitive game of Battleships or Pick Up Sticks (which he became the undisputed champion of!).
Tutoring is about so much more than English. It's about building confidence, celebrating progress, and getting to know some truly wonderful young people along the way.
Thank you for all the laughs, conversations, and the memories. Wishing you every success as you continue your journey. You'll do brilliantly.
