My name is Zella, I am a former Assistant Head Teacher and the founder of Zella Marie Tutoring. I have over 20 years’ experience of teaching in busy classrooms and, since 2018, I have been tutoring pupils in my home-based classroom to support their home or school education. My long career has equipped me with the skills to change my style of delivery according to individual needs resulting in clear pupil progress. I teach with a flexible, adaptive child-centred approach; I am both intuitive and natural in my teaching and pride myself in teaching the pupil rather than subjects. I am a firm believer that it is the teacher and the positive relationship they build with their pupils that makes the biggest difference to academic achievement. In the classroom I always had a particular interest in behaviour management and the psychology of learning. I take time to really get to know my pupils and the overriding thing they all say about lessons is that they are fun – there is a lot of learning too! It is of paramount importance to me that children want to come to our sessions. I see tutoring as an active two-way process between the pupil and myself – a child who wants to learn and engage is always more likely to achieve. Sometimes my challenge is encouraging pupils to rediscover their will and interest to learn after they have become disengaged with school, I achieve this through building a positive, supportive and encouraging relationship. The curriculum can be fast paced in schools; 1:1 tuition offers the opportunity for pupils to access and progress through the curriculum at their own pace irrespective of their year group. In our classroom, pupils are encouraged to ask questions they may not feel secure to ask in class, enabling them to develop their academic confidence. Carefully structured lessons enable pupils to tackle increasingly challenging concepts, resulting in a sense of achievement and a ‘can do’ attitude. I support children to:
*Overcome academic anxieties
*Fully comprehend new concepts
*Experience meaningful and memorable learning
*Develop academic confidence and competence
*Learn how to learn
*Relate learning to real life
*Have the time and space to explore concepts and ask questions
*Receive targeted support for a specific skill or aspect of the curriculum to enable them to progress
