In our summer sessions this week we're diving into vocabulary! This card game, similar to Scrabble but with a simpler twist, is designed to align with the Key Stage 2 curriculum. Through this game, students not only have fun and work collaboratively, but also enhance their vocabulary by delving into word meanings and word classes.

This series is loved by so many of my pupils. The final book is now available for preorder. We've put our order in for our "borrow box" collection - now we just have to wait patiently until March 🫣

It's been a week of bittersweet farewells as I said goodbye to two incredible pupils who are ready to fly solo.
Firstly, I'd like to celebrate the successes of a pupil who joined me two years ago and invited me to be part of her home educating journey. From day one her passion and enthusiasm for maths and learning shone through and she has gone from strength to strength.
Next, I'd like to give a shout out to the achievements of a pupil who has been learning with me for five years. We've been on quite a journey together. In 2018, when I first opened my tutoring door, he literally bounced in full of enthusiasm and energy to learn. Today he left as a capable and mature young man ready for the next chapter. His commitment to learning and perserverance have resulted in huge successes for him.
I will miss you both...and maybe now I might even win some of our classroom games - you were both "Pick up Stick" champions, its a shame you never met lol!
I wish you both well and know you will go far because you are just brilliant! Thank you guys! 😊

I was told today by one of my tutees that I am her favourite after school club.
Given that I know she does many clubs I'll take that as a win!

It's Dyscalculia awareness day! Dyscalculia is a maths learning disability and affects around 6% of the population. It is not as widely known and researched as Dyslexia and yet its impact on learners is just as challenging.
The link below has lots of information about it and is worth a read!

We had fun today creating a letter of complaint for a fictional character. We watched a short video and used comprehension skills to create our own new character, imagining they lived next door to the protaganist in the story and how they might feel. We used talk for writing skills to develop our character and drafted a letter. Finally we explored synonyms to improve our vocabulary in the letter.
My pupil also used her newly developed skill of joined up writing to present her work beautifully. So much learning today! 🥰

Our pupils love to review books and add to our 'recommended reads wall' here are some of our favourites to celebrate World Book Day. Why not give them a try? Remember if you've read anything good recently let us know so that others can enjoy them too!
