SCIENCE CLUB IS CANCELLED TODAY (14TH DECEMBER)
I'm very sorry but I've been forced to cancel all science club sessions today 😢

Our last session of 2022 is tomorrow (wednesday 14th december)! 🥳🎅🎄💫🚀🐈‍⬛️👩‍🔬

And are we finishing the term with a bang! We are doing lots of Christmas chemistry, plus making some snazzy Christmas tree decorations. Can we make the grinches heart grow two sizes bigger?? Let's find out!! 👩‍🔬

We made snowmen out of our own snow, snowball bath bombs, beautiful chromatography snowflakes and elves with growing hair!

Seed week! This week we learnt all about seeds. Seeds are incredible! They provide lots of energy for the seedling to grow, they provide protection and they have evolved to have ingenious ways of travelling.

Superhero Adventure! Hi everyone

This week in science club our theme was super heroes 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

We went on an adventure with superstick and their sidekick fighting against the evil Mr death brain/Mr skeleton/cedric Skelton! And we won we rescued our sidekicks from the slime trap! What an adventure we had 😁

(Today we learnt about designing wings and thinking about aerodynamic shapes, air resistance and why to weight the nose of the plane, we added reactants together to make products, and experimented with quantities of reactants while making playdough)

Today we started our ecology topic in KS3 science.
We learnt all about habitats, ecosystems, organisms and communities. 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀
While outside looking at the biodiversity of minibeasts, we found these, but what are they? Do you know? 😊🤔

Today at home Ed Science club and after school science club we learnt all about bubbles 🚀🐈‍⬛️👩‍🔬

We made bubble pictures, made our own bubble mixture and blew bubbles in a variety of ways and even launched a bubble rocket!

We finished our physics topic on energy in home ed KS3 science! 🙌

What a clever bunch of students I have! 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀
We learnt about energy sources, thermal energy transfer, calculating power, simple machines and particle theory.

I'm so excited to be starting a brand new topic with them this week- Ecology 😁

Today at home Ed and after school science club we learnt all about sound! 🚀🐈‍⬛️👩‍🔬

We talked about how we can hear music, made waves with a slinky, used tuning forks, experimented with changing the pitch of jars of water, made whistles, made cheeky fatty slime, learnt about sound travelling along string and made our own instrument! Phew! What a busy session!

We were back with a bang this week! The Home Ed and After School Science Club theme this week was bonfire night! 🎆🎇

We made bonfire night pictures, launched balloon rockets, made both water and oil, and also shaving foam fireworks. And we may have even watched a real firework! 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

We had a wonderful Halloween session yesterday! 👩‍🔬🚀🐈‍⬛️

We made slime monsters, mixed up some potions and made some climbing spiders 🕷 👻🎃🧪

It was amazing to see some new faces as well as my regular favourites and one or two old students returning for some fun 💕. I love our curious cats family! What a lovely bunch they are 💕👩‍🔬🚀🐈‍⬛️😁

This week's home ed and after school sessions were Halloween pumpkin themed this week! 🎃🎃🎃🎃

We learnt all about pumpkins while dissecting them and exploring all their different parts, then we planted our own seeds, made a pumpkin fidget bag and finished off making some spooky pumpkin torches. Such a busy session with lots of learning. 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

Look at my home ed ks3 homework this week! The brief was to design a turbine for a fossil fuel power station. We talked about how they failed at first but adjusted their designs. I'm so impressed and proud!😁 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

We watched a magic smoke box, made secret invisible messages, concocted colour changing potions and made magical moving pictures! 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

This week at our KS3 science class we learnt all about energy resources and how fossil fuels were made.

The students researched and then created some wonderful masterpieces. The same task, but such different approaches and interpretations. Absolutely brilliant to watch 😊 all outstanding in their own unique way.

We were pirates at home Ed and after school science club today!

We separated a mixtures of treasure, sand and salt (ehile making salt crystals), cleaned our treasure and then designed ships to carry the treasure away afterwards.

So proud of the whole lot of them 🙌🐈‍⬛️👩‍🔬🚀

So proud of them getting to grips with the energy topic. Which is a tricky one!
Today we learnt all about thermal energy, and did an experiment about volume and heat loss.

Aliens in Space

Aliens in Space Hi there,

This afternoons home ed and after school sessions were space themed and we made some incredible creations today 🚀☄️👨‍🚀👽

We talked about the different planets in the solar system, then designed our own aliens to survive in those conditions. The aliens blasted into space on a rocket, then the children designed a space lander to cushion the aliens when they landed. I was so impressed with the engineering and creativity.🚀👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️

Learning about Forces This week at home ed science club and after school science club I introduced forces using the theme 'Things That Go!'

This week at our KS3 science class we learnt all about energy, energy transfers and even the law of conservation of energy!

I was absolutely amazed at how well this bunch did! Very proud of them 🙂🙌👩‍🔬🚀🐈‍⬛️

We had great fun yesterday learning all about 'Things that go' while thinking about forces at home Ed and after school science clubs.

We watched balloons zoom! Experimented with different materials on ramps and made paddle boats 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

Dinosaur Week I love dinosaurs! So much so that I try and do at least two sessions every year on them.

Could not be prouder of my KS3 science class. They were incredible today! 🙌

We started physics and learnt all about energy in food 👩‍🔬🐈‍⬛️🚀

And it's so so SO great to be back!!!! 😁🙌👩‍🔬🚀🐈‍⬛️
Today at home Ed and after school science club we learnt all about dinosaurs! We brushed fossils like palaeontologist, made erupting extinction lava slime, created dinosaur fossil pictured and models and learnt about how dinosaurs digested their food! 🦖🦕
So much fun!!! 🙌

We're also special because sessions are designed and run by fully qualified, experienced science teachers. Sophie and I have both worked with children for many years, but we also both came from science backgrounds, and then graduated with our teaching degrees in 2011. We've both taught science for many years in school and privately. And so we are experts on how to teach science, how to break concepts down, and how to challenge the most curious minds.

We need to encourage children to be curious, creative problem solvers!

At the heart of curious cats children are encouraged to think 'what if I try doing this....' 'what will happen if I add that...' 'how can I make this even better?'

All too often people think of science, maths and engineering as completely separate to arts and creativity, but actually they are very much intertwined.
