🌸 Flowers 🌸

This week, our learning has blossomed from our topic of plants and growing into a wonderful exploration of flowers.
The children have enjoyed getting creative by painting flowers using real flowers as paintbrushes and making scented lavender playdough. We have also been busy planting flowers and taking responsibility for caring for our growing garden by checking on our carrot and strawberry plants.

In music, the children listened to and explored Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, responding to the sounds through discussion and movement. We have also been developing our knowledge of different plants through games such as plant bingo, helping the children to recognise different gardening equipment, practise taking turns and name a variety of different flowers.

🌱🌻 This week in Nursery, the children have been learning all about plants and how things grow!

The children enjoyed planting their own sunflower seeds and talked about what plants need to grow strong and healthy. They explored a soil sensory tuff tray, using their hands and tools to investigate different textures while developing their curiosity about the natural world.

We also looked closely at a variety of fruits and vegetables and discovered the seeds hidden inside them. The children compared the different sizes, shapes, and quantities of seeds, making observations and sharing their ideas about how new plants grow from seeds.

We can't wait to watch our sunflowers grow over the coming weeks. 🌻😊

🦋Butterflies🦋

Over the last few weeks, the children have enjoyed watching the lifecycle of a caterpillar, ending in an exciting butterfly release day 🦋

It has been such a special start back at school this week, and the children have been absolutely delighted by our new outdoor learning space (we may still need to come up with a better name for it!).

It has been lovely to see the excitement on their faces as they have started to use it, especially with the weather being a little less summery than we might have hoped.
The children are not the only ones who have been impressed—visitors who have seen the space have also commented on how wonderful it is and how fortunate our children are to have access to it.

None of this would have been possible without the amazing Mrs Preddy, who worked so hard to move the project forward, and our wonderful PTA, whose generous funding has helped us create something that will benefit the children in our school for many years to come.

I would also like to thank Teija for working with the children to create an arch for the entrance to the outdoor learning area. The children thoroughly enjoyed being part of this, and their interpretation of the local area is just wonderful.

🚀 Rockets 🚀

Following on our intergalactic experience through space, the Turtles Class have been exploring rockets, space machines and astronauts.
We have explored how rockets are made of many different 2D and 3D shapes, how different science experiments take place to create " blast off" as well building our own rockets and satellites through fruit kebabs and junk modelling.

Continuing their senses topic, Nurture Tribe explored “Touch”.

Each child planted a sunflower seed and then worked together to create a sensory garden brimming with herbs, flowers and strawberries 🌱🌷🍓

They demonstrated remarkable perseverance and encouragement for their peers when it came to lighting the fire with the flint and steel.

This term, our Nurture Tribe's topic is the five senses.
So far, they have focussed on sight and hearing. The children created fantastic suncatchers using natural materials and coloured cellophane. They thoroughly enjoyed lifting them up to admire the colours and shadows on the ground. The session concluded with cloud watching, where they spotted various shapes and objects such as a pirate ship and a shark. They then discussed different cloud types and attempted to identify the ones we were observing.🌥️☁️

To explore the sense of hearing, they began by creating a sound postcard of their surroundings, capturing various noises such as birds, wind, and horses. They then crafted wind chimes using materials like coconut shells, bamboo, beads and metal wind chimes. The children created such a range of designs.

Turtles class have had a fantastic start to exploring their space-themed topic this term, focussing on planets and the moon the past two weeks 🌓🌍

The children have been busy getting creative by painting their own planets, using their imaginations in the space station role play, and building amazing rockets and satellites with construction toys. 🌍🛰️
