✨TOP TIPS✨ For Your First Day at College

We know you're probably excited for your first day at college on Thursday 3rd September, but it's completely normal to feel a little nervous too.

To help you feel prepared and more confident, we've put together our top tips for your first day:

🚌Buy your bus pass ahead of your first day -

If you’re planning to use college buses, it’s really important that you purchase your college bus pass and apply for a bursary (if applicable) online ahead of your first day at www.callywith.ac.uk/transport. Students can use the college buses free of charge on 3rd and 4th of September.

🎒Wear something comfortable -

Whatever you decide to wear, comfort is key! You may be walking further than you’d expect so it’s important you wear a comfortable pair of shoes. The unpredictable Cornish weather can often mean rain! So, bring a waterproof jacket too. A sturdy backpack or bag is also ideal for carrying everything you may need.

⚽️Find out about enrichment opportunities -

Speak to staff and current students about the wide variety of academies and other enrichment opportunities you can get involved in at our Freshers’ Fair on 3rd September in Garrow Sports Hall. Find out more at www.callywith.ac.uk/academies

🥪Grab some lunch -

After a busy morning, you will have worked up an appetite. The two refectories in Temple and Garrow operate a cashless payment system. You’ll need to bring your debit card to pay for food at these outlets or cash to upload money to your student ID card at one of our payment points before you purchase food.

😥Remember it's normal to feel a little overwhelmed -

While the college may seem a lot bigger than school, don’t worry as there are plenty of places around the college where you can grab a moment to yourself, like our peaceful Mindfulness Trail which winds around the Astro pitch. If you do have any worries, or just want to have a chat with someone, you can talk to our Student Services team in Temple T010, by emailing [email protected] or calling 01208 224460. You can also discuss any concerns with your Personal Development Tutor (PDT).

Sessional Lecturers in Sociology and Psychology - Hourly Paid Opportunities

Due to exceptionally strong student enrolments for the 2026/27 academic year, Callywith College is seeking enthusiastic and talented lecturers to join our successful Social Sciences team on an hourly paid basis.

We are looking for individuals with the knowledge, passion and commitment to inspire the next generation of students studying Sociology and/or Psychology.

As a Sessional Lecturer, you will deliver high-quality teaching, support student progress and contribute to the outstanding learning experience for which Callywith College is known.

Celebrating more of our students' outstanding results🎉

Lexie Barnes achieved As in her Psychology and English A Levels and a B in Biology.

Lexie, who previously attended Brannel School and also attends Callywith’s Medics’ Academy, is going on to study Medicine at the University of Plymouth.

She said: “I’m very excited to finally be able to watch my passion come to life - I’ve been extremely dedicated to medicine for the past two years and watching my hard work pay off will be very rewarding, along with eventually having one of the most rewarding careers possible in my eyes. Mostly, I can’t wait to help people!"

Olivia Dark achieved an impressive DMM in her BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Olivia, who previously attended Bodmin College, is going on to do a Vet Nursing Apprenticeship.

Reflecting on her time at Callywith, she said: “I had very good teachers who were lovely and very helpful with my back problem and helping me with assignments and exams.”

Keris Welby is celebrating a Distinction in her T Level Education & Early Years. She previously attended Bodmin College and is going to Plymouth Marjon University to study Primary Education.

Keris, who previously attended Bodmin College, said: “I’m so pleased with my results and can’t wait to start university.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons at Callywith; the staff were always so supportive. My lecturers provided me with the knowledge I needed to grow and to achieve my Early Years Educator Status. Support staff have supported me massively by helping me to stay positive through tough times and giving me guidance and advice to navigate college life.”

A huge well done to Lexie, Olivia and Keris on achieving such fantastic results as best of luck with your next steps!👏

WELCOME TO CALLYWITH COLLEGE – Important Information for New Students

We are looking forward to welcoming new students to Callywith College on Thursday 3rd September.

All new students should now have received an email with important information about the start of term.

On Thursday 3rd September for enrolment:

⭐Arrive at college before 9:10am and be prepared for a full college day

⭐All college buses are running, you can use this service on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September without charge.

⭐When you arrive at college, please follow the First Year Enrolment signs to the Sports Hall (Garrow Building) where you will be handed an enrolment pack containing your college username and password, your timetable for 3rd and 4th September, an enrolment checklist.

⭐You will then move straight to your first lesson and begin your college course(s).

⭐You will finish college at 4:25pm - buses will run as advertised.

⭐You will receive your finalised timetable on the first day of term. IMPORTANT: please ignore any timetables on the College Portal.

A reminder that, if you have not already done so, you need to purchase your bus pass and/or apply for a bursary (if applicable) asap by visiting www.callywith.ac.uk/transport.

Your £35 non-refundable enrolment fee must also be purchased at https://callywith.collegestore.uk/

All students will be sent the 2026-27 Student Handbook and will also receive a printed version at your enrolment on Thursday.

It is important that you attend college from Thursday 3rd September, as you will receive important information and spend time with your Personal Development Tutor and lecturers.

100% PASS RATE for our first cohort of T Level Education and Early Years! 🎉👏

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of our very first cohort of T Level Education and Early Years students at Callywith College:

⭐ 100% pass rate
⭐ 93% achieved a Merit or above
⭐ 44% achieved a Distinction

These results are a fantastic achievement for our students – and a reflection of the dedication of an Early Years team who care passionately about the profession and about preparing the next generation of practitioners.

Our first-year cohort has also achieved an incredible 100% pass rate, with 79% achieving the top grades of B or above.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

In 2024, Callywith College faced a significant change in Early Years education. With the qualifications landscape changing, we needed to embrace a new direction – and we chose to deliver the T Level in Education and Early Years.

We did so because we could see the real strengths of the qualification and, most importantly, what it could offer our students.

Under our previous qualification, students completed extensive work placements across different age groups. However, their practical ability was not formally assessed as part of their final grade. This sometimes meant that students who were outstanding in placement – building relationships with children, understanding their development and planning meaningful experiences – were not always able to have those strengths reflected in their overall grade.

The T Level changed that.

It allows students to demonstrate both their academic knowledge and their ability to apply that knowledge in practice. For us, that is incredibly important.

Early Years is a profession where you need to understand the theory, but you also need to know how to put it into practice with real children, families and colleagues. Our students learn in so many different ways – through listening, discussion, observation, research, experience and, importantly, through doing.

At Callywith, our T Level is delivered by an incredibly experienced Early Years teaching team. Our staff have worked directly with children and families, managed Early Years settings, led teams, safeguarded children and supported practitioners in the roles our students are preparing to enter. That wealth of professional experience means our students are learning from people who understand what excellent practice looks like in the real world.
Watching our first cohort grow in confidence, knowledge and professionalism has made us incredibly proud!

Alongside their T Level studies, our students have had opportunities to gain additional training including Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding and Safer Sleeping, helping them to become even more confident and employment-ready practitioners.

Our students leave us equipped to progress directly into the Early Years workforce, with several already choosing careers in nurseries and schools.

Others are continuing their education at university, progressing into areas such as Primary Teaching, Early Years, Youth Work and related professions.

As our Early Years provision continues to grow, with a new Early Childhood Development qualification launching in 2026 alongside our T Level, we are incredibly excited about what comes next.

We are proud of how far our T Level provision has come in just two years, and exceptionally proud of our staff and students who are helping to shape the future Early Years workforce – practitioners who will go on to educate, care for, safeguard and make a lasting difference to the lives of children and families. 💛

The future of Early Years is in very good hands.

🎉 Student Success Story – Devon 🧡 🙌
Head Student Devon is celebrating an exceptional set of GCSE results, achieving a majority of Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and a Grade 7 after months of dedication and hard work.
In September, Devon will be heading to Callywith College to study Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, alongside an EPQ and The Medics Academy, as she pursues her ambition of a career in medicine.
Looking back on her time at Bodmin College, her standout memory was completing Ten Tors with two close friends in Year 9:

"There were so many tears, but when we saw the finish line, we all started running. That has always been my Bodmin College moment."
Devon also wanted to thank Mrs Pooley, saying:

"She always gave us so many resources and guided us through the whole course. I owe my nines in Science to her!"

Celebrating more student success!🎉

Jonathan Waller achieved an impressive ABA* in his Geology, Environmental Science and Fine Art A Levels.

Jonathan, who previously attended Bodmin College, reflected on his time at Callywith: “Everyone is very supportive and friendly. They gave me lots of one-to-one time and support.”

Jack Mullen has achieved an outstanding D*D*D* in his BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Jack, who previously attended Launceston College, said: “I am extremely happy with my results. The staff at Callywith have been amazing and have helped me majorly throughout my years here. They have boosted my confidence and supported me during my downs, and my results have cleared any doubts I had about my time here.

“The support I have received has raised my mood and improved my knowledge and confidence in myself and my abilities.”

Looking to the future, Jack is hoping to pursue a science- or engineering-based role in the RFA.

Yasmin Hosken is celebrating a Merit in her BTEC Level 3 Performing & Production Arts Extended Diploma and is heading to Bath Spa University to study Drama.

Yasmin, who previoulsy attended Bodmin College, said: “I'm feeling very pleased with my results. I'm so proud of how hard I've worked.

“I had an amazing friend group within my class at Callywith, and my lecturers were so friendly and helpful with my university decisions. My course was so much fun, and I really enjoyed the performing aspect of it all.

“My lecturers were very supportive with my university decisions and helped me through some tough times that I went through.

“I'm very excited about going to university and can't wait to pursue acting in further education.”

If you've applied to join us this September 2026, when you receive your GCSE results, it’s important to enter your grades online at www.callywith.ac.uk today (Thursday 20th August) to confirm your place and chosen course/s with us.

If you are not expecting new results, have an unconditional offer or are an existing student returning to start a new course, you must still read the information below and log-in to the College Portal to confirm your place.

🌟TO CONFIRM YOUR PLACE:

1. You must enter your results by 9:00am on Friday 21st August. Places are in high demand and failure to meet this deadline could result in you losing your place at the college.

2. Enter your results by logging into your college portal account - https://portal.truro-penwith.ac.uk/

3. Follow the instructions on screen to enter your grades, upload evidence of your results and save your decision.

4. You will be contacted by email or telephone within 48 hours.

5. If you don’t meet the entry requirements in your offer, still enter your results and we will contact you by telephone with advice and course options within 48 hours.

6. If you no longer want the place you have been offered then you can let us know within the portal or by email to [email protected].
