Back in April, our families were invited to take part in a special potato-growing initiative, encouraging children and their families to experience the joy of growing their own food at home. We provided everything they needed to get started and successfully grow their very own crop of potatoes.

In line with National Allotments Week, this week we welcomed our families back to nursery with their potato bags, ready for the exciting moment of harvesting and discovering what had been growing beneath the soil.

We have been overwhelmed by the response and the enthusiasm shown by our children and families. From planting and watering to patiently waiting and finally harvesting, the experience has provided wonderful opportunities for children to learn where food comes from, develop a connection with nature and understand the importance of caring for our environment.

Most importantly, it has inspired families to continue growing at home and shown our children just how rewarding growing your own food can be.

🌱 The children of today are the future generation of growers — and what better way to inspire them than by planting that very first seed together? 🥔💚

Tonight there will be a Solar eclipse, this happens when the moon moves between the sun and the earth blocking the sun's light either partially or completely.

It is not safe to look at the eclipse with the naked eye.

Take a look at the video below to create a simple tool for tonight's eclipse.

Can you find a fine prize cow? 🐄

On our walk we spotted so many cows, we identified that there was black, black and white, white, brown ones, some were big and some were small. The cows made their way over to our cherubs which got us all super excited.😃

At the reservoir we sat on the wooden deck and looked carefully for some ducks🦆.
After wating very patiently we spotted two, that swam very close to us.

Our sunflower room recently visited the local garden centre. We pride ourselves on providing children with first hand experiences. 🌻

There are a wealth of benefits associated with connecting with nature and first hand experiences. They help support and promote -

•Encourages curiosity and exploration as children discover a variety of plants, flowers, trees, and garden features. 🌺 🪴
•Supports language development by introducing new words such as petals, roots, compost, herbs, and watering can.
•Develops sensory skills through exploring different colours, textures, scents, and natural sounds.
•Promotes physical development as children walk, reach, bend, and navigate different paths.
•Enhances understanding of the world by learning how plants grow, where food comes from, and how people care for living things. 🌎 🪴
•Encourages mathematical thinking through counting flowers, comparing sizes, identifying shapes, and noticing patterns.
•Builds social skills by practising turn-taking, following simple instructions, and interacting with staff and visitors.

Our daisy room love to explore mark making outdoors 🎨.
There are many benefits to providing mark making opportunities for all children. It’s helps -
•Develops fine motor skills by encouraging babies to grasp, reach, point, and move their hands and fingers. 🖌️
•Strengthens gross motor skills as children squat, crawl, stand, or walk while making large marks.
•Supports sensory exploration through different textures such as water, mud, sand, foam, and paint.
•Encourages creativity by allowing babies to experiment freely without worrying about the end result. 🎨
•Builds early communication skills as adults talk about the marks, colours, shapes, and movements.
•Promotes curiosity and problem-solving as babies discover how different tools and materials create different marks.
•Supports hand-eye coordination by helping babies connect their movements with the marks they make. 👁️
