The session will be presented by Judith Hedley, our Autism Nurse Practitioner & Sleep Counsellor, who will explore sleep and some of the factors that can contribute to sleep difficulties for autistic people.

Talking to a pupil about their wellbeing can feel daunting, particularly when you are unsure what to say or worried about hearing something concerning.

Our latest guide reminds educators that they do not need to be specialists to provide meaningful support.

The guide explores:
• Building warm, trusting relationships
• Choosing a safe and appropriate place to talk
• Using side-by-side conversations to reduce pressure
• Staying calm when a pupil shares a concern
• Being clear and honest about confidentiality
• Knowing when to involve safeguarding colleagues or seek support yourself

It also includes practical conversation starters to help staff open discussions gently and give pupils space to talk when they are ready.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service
With Bonfire Night approaching, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging parents and carers to talk to their children about the dangers of deliberate fire setting. Deliberate fires can put people, property, and the environment at risk, while placing additional pressure on emergency services.

Please take a moment to read the attached Deliberate Fire Setting Leaflet, which highlights the risks and consequences of fire setting and provides details of support services available.
We also encourage families to celebrate Bonfire Night safely by attending organised displays where possible and ensuring any fireworks used at home are handled responsibly and under adult supervision.

Thank you for helping us keep our communities safe this Bonfire Night.
