🌟 Two days of incredible workshops and an inspiring apprenticeship event for our students at Inspire Blyth!

This week has been all about opening doors, raising aspirations and helping our students make informed choices about their futures.

Our students visited Newcastle for an amazing apprenticeship event, where they heard presentations from a plethora of businesses offering post-16 opportunities. It was a fantastic chance to explore different pathways, discover new possibilities and think about what their futures could hold.

On Thursday, we had the privilege of listening to the incredible Casey Robinson, who bravely shared her personal experiences of County Lines and exploitation. Today, we welcomed Ian Cowie, who spoke openly about overcoming addiction, the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and how he built a successful business from scratch.

Both speakers shared powerful, real-life experiences that went far beyond the classroom. Their stories highlighted how to recognise risky situations, people and behaviours, but also the importance of resilience, making positive choices, overcoming adversity, rebuilding your life and finding success.

These were honest, thought-provoking and utterly inspirational sessions that gave our students so much to reflect on. Sometimes, the most powerful lessons come from people who have lived through the experiences they are talking about.

A huge thank you to Casey and Ian for their honesty, courage and willingness to share their stories with our young people. Thank you also to Fix Radio, who joined us today to record the audio from Ian’s session.

At Inspire, we want our students to understand that their past does not have to define their future, that positive choices matter, and that there are always opportunities to learn, grow and succeed.

With Christmas now approaching, we want parents and carers to be fully aware of the law around e-bikes and e-scooters πŸŽ„

We appreciate that many people may be considering buying these types of vehicles as gifts and would like everybody to be clear on the regulations around use of them. The last thing we want to do is seize vehicles which have been given as presents.

But anyone who breaks the law while using these vehicles risk losing them. And once seized they could be crushed and those responsible prosecuted ⚠️

Here are a few helpful reminders:

E-bikes:

You can ride an electric bike, or an 'electrically assisted pedal cycle' (EAPC), without a license or insurance if you're aged 14 or over. However, it MUST:
βœ… Have pedals that you can use to propel it.
βœ… Have an electric motor that can run continuously at a maximum power of no more than 250 watts.
βœ… Have no electrical assistance once they reach a speed of 15.5mph.

If your electric bike fails to meet any of these requirements it needs to be taxed and insured as either a motorcycle or a moped. You also need a licence.

Failure to comply with those requirements will lead to prosecution

E-scooters:

❌ It is illegal to use e-scooters on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.
❌ If you use a privately-owned e-scooter in public, you risk the vehicle being seized under S.165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for having no insurance.
🀝🏻 If you own an e-scooter, you can only use it in on private land, such as in a garden. But you must have the permission of the landowner to do so.
❌ If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter/e-motorbike, the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.
❌ E-scooters are illegal for use in any public space unless rented as part of an e-scooter rental trial in some parts of the UK.

Privately-owned e-scooters and many high-powered electric bikes are illegal to use on public roads, pavements, or cycle lanes.

Today we're turning Inspire YELLOW to support **World Mental Health Day!** πŸ’›

Our amazing students and staff are coming together to spread positivity, raise awareness and remind everyone that **it's okay not to be okay.**

πŸ’› You matter.
🌻 Your feelings matter.
πŸ’› You are never alone.
🌻 A little kindness goes a long way.

Today is all about smiles, laughter, kindness and looking out for one another. Sometimes the smallest gesture can make the biggest difference to someone's day.

We'll be spreading a little sunshine around Blyth and reminding our community that nobody should have to struggle alone. β˜€οΈπŸ’›

**Because even on the cloudiest days, a little yellow can bring some sunshine!** 🌻

πŸŽ¨πŸ“Έ Inspire Art & Photography – North Shields Mural Trail

Today our students took their art and photography project out into the local community as we explored the North Shields Mural Trail.

North Shields has been transformed into an incredible open-air gallery, with large-scale murals celebrating the town’s history, people, fishing heritage, music and local identity.

Our students had the opportunity to see the artwork up close and, most importantly, to look at it through the eyes of photographers and artists.

πŸ“Έ They explored:

* Composition and framing
* Colour and contrast
* Perspective and scale
* Texture and pattern
* Light and shadow
* How art can transform everyday spaces
* How local places and communities can inspire creative work

Rather than simply photographing the murals, students were encouraged to look carefully and find interesting details.

It was fantastic to see them noticing things they might normally walk straight past and discovering how much creativity there is within our own local community.

A brilliant day of art, photography, exploration and creativity – and some fantastic photographs to show for it! πŸ“ΈπŸŽ¨
