Yesterday I posted nothing.
The day got away from me — the way days do — and by the time I remembered, it was gone.
Now, every social media guru will tell you consistency is everything. Post daily. Never break the streak. Show up or the algorithm forgets you.
Here's what they don't tell you: the algorithm isn't your mam. You don't owe it anything.
Missing a day doesn't mean you've failed. It means you had a Tuesday. The only people who never miss a day are the ones paying somebody else to pretend to be them — and that's precisely the version of "showing up" I want no part of.
So here I am, a day late, with a cuppa, while my car sits its MOT. (This is the car whose clutch clip has snapped three times. Paul's fixed it three times. "It's going nowhere," he says. That's what I'm afraid of.)
If something got away from you yesterday — the post, the walk, the phone call, the thing on the list — it doesn't matter. Today's here. Do the thing today, or don't, and be kind to yourself either way.
That's the whole secret nobody's selling: you were never behind. There is no behind.
