Pupils at Gilbert Ward Academy were celebrating yesterday as they received their GCSE results.

Louise Hindmarch, Deputy Director of School Improvement, shared her congratulations, saying: "Our pupils have worked incredibly hard, and we are delighted with what they’ve achieved. Their results reflect real determination, supported by our fantastic staff, families and wider school community."

Every pupil has secured a positive next step for September. Many will be progressing to local colleges to continue their studies, while others have already moved into employment and begun their journey into the world of work.

A reminder that Results Day is on Thursday 20 August. Pupils will be able to collect their results between 10:00am – 12:00pm

If a student would like a parent, carer, or family member to collect their results on their behalf, the person collecting must bring a signed permission letter from the student and their own photographic ID.

Any results that are not collected on Results Day will be posted to the address we currently hold on record.

The Year 11 learners have officially left school after a busy and memorable week filled with exams, celebrations and farewells. 👋

Following their final exam on Wednesday 24 June, learners enjoyed a well-deserved trip to Flamingo Land on Thursday. The day was packed with excitement as learners and staff rode roller-coasters, explored the zoo and spent quality time together creating lasting memories. At times, it felt as though they were in Madagascar as they spotted a variety of animals around the park. The day was made even more special as everyone came together to celebrate one learner's 16th birthday. 🎢🎂

The celebrations continued on Friday with the Leavers' Assembly, where learners and their families joined staff to mark the end of their school journey. During the assembly, learners were presented with certificates and leavers' files, and everyone had the opportunity to share final goodbyes and reflect on the many achievements and memories of their time at school.

Everyone is incredibly proud of everything this year group has accomplished. Their hard work, resilience and positive attitude have been a credit to the school. As they move on to the next stage of their lives, Gilbert Ward staff wish them every success for the future. 💪

You have been a fantastic year group, and everyone knows you will go on to achieve great things. Good luck, Year 11 – everyone will miss you! 🌟

This term, the Explore Pathway have all visited the Beacon of Light to work with the staff from the Foundation of Light were able to take part in an immersive, creative session, creating their own characters and using descriptive writing to describe their characters features, skills, and personalities. One pupil even created the legendary NUFC and England player Dan Burn who is from Blyth himself. ⚽

After being super creative, the pupils then had a sports session with SAFC Foundation coaches playing football, ultimate Frisbee, and rocketball. The pupils had a brilliant time and are looking forward to their next visit. 🌟😃

The Year 7's enjoyed their trip to the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum. The were multiple war plane crafts, old metro trams, commercial planes and uniforms throughout the decades. 🛫🚊

Pupil Benny said: "This was a Jet2 holiday plane, back in the day."

Then, Daniel, pupil, said while walking through the plane: "Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday."

All of the pupils showed engagement throughout and stated they wanted to go back. Well done, Year 7's. 👏

The Government is expanding FSM eligibility, meaning that all children in households receiving Universal Credit will now be able to receive FSM.
