What a year…

Over 250 workshops and 6000 pupils, from Scotland to Derbyshire, and across the North-East.

We’ve delivered sessions from Key Stage 2 to sixth form; 35+ schools, PRUs and youth projects.

All of us, no matter who we are, on some level, crave (& deserve!) connection, acceptance, love, relationship. That is primarily what RSHE is all about; being human and placing unconditional value on ourselves and others.

I’ve lost count of the number of honest conversations I’ve had with young people, but a handful stand out.

“Course men can talk about their feelings. They should. They might not be here if they don’t.”

This is why we do it.

Breathe.

Process.

Recharge.

Pupil feedback from a sunny September day with year 9s.

Consent, for many, is both verbal and non verbal, natural and straightforward.

Consent is, for many, awkward, confusing and complex.

Particularly for young people, often navigating these situations is hard. So we have to be having these conversations with them.

Understanding the law? Absolutely.
But consent goes so much deeper.

It’s about being human, vulnerable, honest, understanding, patient, caring. 🩵💛

Young people are often told s*x is the opposite.

At Worth Educating, we delivered our first workshops of the new school year this week, where we looked at consent with year 9s at Marden High in Whitley Bay.

They were fantastic and interacted with 💯% enthusiasm from start to finish in this activity based session.

We can’t wait to do it all over again next week and are very excited for the year ahead!

Above all, how we’re all worth spending time with.

This incident at the women’s World Cup Final and the aftermath has at least led to global dialogue around consent. These real life situations provide a catalyst for classroom based conversations. They’re real, they’re happening and they’re impacting people.

If nothing else, from a educational perspective, let’s get talking.
