2019 - 2020

Guess How Much I Love You & My Family Workshops (2) We have been learning that all families can be very different and enjoyed sharing about our own with each other, taking it turns to listen and talk in conversations that were linked to a main theme. We used our imaginations to write out potions that would make people share and be more kind to each other. We explored the importance of healthy foods and shared our likes and dislikes. We used our phonic knowledge to write about our families and asked a friend to read it out so we could guess who's family it was! In maths we looked at partitioning numbers and adding or subtracting with two digit numbers.

Winter Wonderland Workshops (3)
We had amazing fun learning about the changes that take place in the winter and how different animals in the Arctic & Antarctic survive. We had to listen carefully to instructions to be able to follow recipes and make our very own snow and coconut ice! The children were able to label or write captions for a wide range of animals that live in cold conditions and describe their habitat. This topic had lots of fabulous creative activities that helped the children practice their fine motor skills.

Christmas Workshop (3)
We have been using our phonic knowledge to write messages of happiness to our family and friends. The children have been listening to Christmas stories and have learnt that other cultures celebrate Christmas differently. We also talked about each other's families traditions and shared previous experiences and expectations. For our maths we have been learning to 'share' and divide with numbers up to 10, 20 & 50.

Witches & Wizards Cont:
Classroom Sessions
We have been focusing on telling and writing stories; learning to use conjunction words and powerful adjectives to describe the characters that we made up. We used some traditional stories and then had a go at making our own endings or introduced different characters!
We have also been observing the changes in the weather and looking at the seasons; this has led us to start thinking about animals that hibernate and that are nocturnal.

Harry Potter Half Term Workshops (2)
The children's focus and attention to detail during these workshops was amazing! We learnt some fascinating new skills using our imaginations through story telling. We used good listening and developed a wide range of vocabulary when expressing explanations by connecting ideas or events to each other. The exciting range of 'weird' activities promoted enough confidence for the children to try them all out with lots of giggles and support for each other too! Our maths was to measure out the ingredients for our potions super carefully!

Rumble In the Jungle: Private Classroom Sessions

Dinosaurs:
We have been learning all about the different types of dinosaurs; their names, which period they lived in and if they were herbivores or carnivores! We used powerful adjectives in our writing to describe the dinosaurs and the world they lived in. Carefully composing sentences and using our phonic knowledge; we also had to think about using quite a few tricky, common exception words! Our maths was all about size comparison and being able to order from small to large with objects and numbers.

Rumble In The Jungle: Dear Zoo
We really had to apply phonic knowledge & skills to decode words today to read our post from the Zoo and then respond by writing a letter
So we carefully composed our sentences orally before writing them and ensured we checked our work as we went along!
We looked at the concept of measurement today too and tried to use as much measuring terminology as possible as we cut up the fruit and vegetables for the animals in different sizes and lengths.
Lots of discussions about previous experiences about our zoo visits; taking it turns to hold conversations that are kept to a theme.

Rumble In The Jungle Workshops: Safari
The children quickly took on the roles of Safari Advisors, Animal Keepers & Safari Guides; showing their prior knowledge through conversations that were linked to the main theme. The children were able to use every day terminology for the concept of money and made their own problems to solve by charging fees to enter the Safari Park!
We talked about the animals and their natural environments and compared them to our own, the children were able to distinguish the major differences between our country and theirs.

Rumble In The Jungle Workshops: Vets 3
We had so much fun learning about how to care for animals. We had amazing conversations about the children's prior knowledge, making sure we were respecting others whilst we talk. Also being able to give their attention to what others are saying in order to respond appropriately whilst carrying out other parts of their activities. We had to use our phonic knowledge to be able to write some of the animals names, where they come from and what they may eat!
The children also learnt about different occupations within animal care and talked about how this would vary around the world.

Mini-beasts:
June & July have been spent learning about mini-beasts; this has promoted awareness of similarities and differences in relation to places, objects and living things. We have talked lots about environments and compared their own to that of where mini-beasts would live.
The children had the chance to to learn or
re-visit the life cycles of insects and look more in depth at the changes that take place. We eagerly waited for our classroom caterpillars to transform in to beautiful butterflies and documented the process! This has helped the children to understand the importance of caring for living things. This topic gave us a fab range of Expressive Arts & Design ideas to try too to practice our fine motor skills!
In maths we have learnt to order numbers and use the language of more or less.

Traditional Tales Continued:
We have been reading, talking about and re-writing Traditional Tales; this has helped us to learn to link statements and stick to a main theme when holding a conversation and composing our writing.
We have are able to talk in an organised manner, in sequence and clarify our thinking, ideas, feelings and events around the concepts of the stories. We have also looked at how they relate to our own experiences and morals of every day issues.
The children have also been learning to count and add irregular arrangements up to 10, 20 & 50; writing out number sentences and problem solving.

Our Story
Bright Little Sparks is a private tutoring service for children aged 3 - 7 years. The main aims are to support your child with extra help for their school work or to prepare them with needed skills ready for Reception/Foundation at school.
Children can often flourish and reach their full potential in more of a one-to-one environment or as part of a smaller group outside of a noisy classroom in a school.
We have created a small, friendly classroom in which your child can learn to read, write, share, give; care and listen. It is situated in a garden setting and specifically designed to be welcoming to children.
The sessions are catered for the child's individual needs and the activities are designed to fully engage them in order to develop effective learning; covering maths, phonics, creative arts and all areas of personal, social and emotional development. We work towards Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines and will monitor your child's progress throughout.
The Bright Little Sparks philosophy to learning is that our children will enjoy their time with us whilst improving their skills. We will ensure that the activities are focussed on their personal/age appropriate interests and are stimulating; and in most cases fun!!
To support the children's settling in to the classroom and meeting the Bright Little Sparks team, we recommend a visit to the classroom prior to starting. This will also allow us to gather information about your child and help us to create activities ready for them when they arrive.
If you would like more information or would like to arrange a visit please contact us and we will be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
