🦋 Beautiful Butterflies at Music Bugs! 🦋🎶

Our Emeralds transformed into beautiful butterflies during their Summer Music Bugs special with the lovely Kira! Dressed in colourful wings, they fluttered, flew and swooped around the garden, moving their bodies to the music. 🎵

Lisa joined in too, flying alongside the children, laughing, chatting and encouraging their ideas. 💕 Through music and imaginative play, they practised listening, coordination, balance, confidence, self-expression and moving together with friends.

A magical morning for our little butterflies! 🦋✨

🌞🌒 Exploring the Solar Eclipse! 🌒🌞

Our children have been learning all about the solar eclipse on 12th August! ✨

To bring their learning to life, they created their own eclipse pictures, using sponges to paint around their “moon” before lifting it away to reveal the bright “sun” underneath. 🎨☀️

The activity sparked lots of curiosity and conversation as we introduced words such as sun, moon, Earth, light, shadow and space. The children also developed their creativity, hand control and understanding of shapes and positioning.

A wonderful mix of science, discovery, maths and creativity! 🌍✨

🐻 Let’s Get Sorting! 🐻

Our Emeralds have been busy exploring colour, size and sorting with our Compare Bears! 🌈

Using tweezers, the children carefully picked up the bears and matched them to the correct dishes, developing their fine motor control, concentration and early mathematical thinking. They compared different sizes and used words such as big, small, bigger and smaller to describe what they noticed. 🔢

The activity also sparked lots of lovely conversation – including discussions about the names of their own bears at home! 🧸💬

A fun way to build vocabulary, confidence and problem-solving skills through play. 💚

☀️💦 SPLISH, SPLASH, HOORAY! 💦☀️

What better way to enjoy a sunny morning than with some paddling pool fun! 🥳🌊

Our preschoolers had a wonderful time splashing, pouring, filling and exploring the water, building confidence as they moved their bodies and played alongside their friends. There were lots of opportunities for sharing, taking turns, conversation and new vocabulary, as well as exploring ideas such as full, empty, more, less, floating and sinking. 💦

A lovely morning of active play, discovery and plenty of smiles in the sunshine! 🩵

🌱 Our Little Green Fingers 🌱

Our Little Gems have been busy giving our barrel flowerpot a makeover! 🌿 Sadly, the recent heat scorched our plants, but we found a wonderful way to start again. 💚

Inside our Eco-Schools congratulations package was a special postcard made from seeded paper! ♻️🌸 The children worked together to clear the old plants, explore the soil, tear up the postcard and carefully plant the pieces.

This hands-on experience encouraged teamwork, fine motor skills and exploration of the natural world, while introducing new words such as seeds, soil, roots, plant and grow. 🌍🌱

Now we’ll be watching and waiting to see what grows! 🤞🌺

🌿💚 Our Eco-Schools Celebration Package Has Arrived! 💚🌿

We’re so excited to receive our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction 2026–2027 celebration package! 🎉🏆

Our box is packed with our fantastic Green Flag plaque, certificate, stickers and lots of eco goodies for the children to explore and enjoy. 🌎♻️🌱

This award is a wonderful recognition of the enthusiasm and hard work of our children and staff, who have been learning how the small choices we make can help care for our planet. 💚

A huge well done to Terry and our little Eco Warriors for leading the way and inspiring everyone at nursery to get involved. 🌿👏

We can’t wait to proudly display our new Green Flag Award at nursery!

lime Science! 💚🧪

Today Jasmine and our preschoolers had lots of messy fun making their very own slime! 💚

The children measured, poured, mixed and experimented with different ingredients, watching with excitement as the mixture changed and their slime began to form. They explored different textures and consistencies, made predictions about what might happen next and discovered how adding different amounts could change the end result. 🥄🔬

There was lots of problem-solving, careful observation, new vocabulary and fantastic teamwork along the way — a brilliant hands-on STEM experience that made learning exciting and fun! 🌟

🍓🍇🍊 Fruity Skewers! 🍊🍇🍓

Our children had great fun making their own fruity desserts today! They carefully threaded their favourite fruits onto skewers, choosing the colours and flavours they wanted to enjoy. 🌈

As they created, we chatted about the different fruits, their colours, tastes and textures, counted the pieces and talked about making healthy choices.

A lovely activity for developing careful hand movements, building new vocabulary and encouraging independence, confidence and decision-making. 💚

And, of course, they thoroughly enjoyed eating their delicious creations! 😋

🌿 Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction 2026! 💚🌍

We are delighted to share that The Palace Day Nursery has once again achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction! 🌿

This award celebrates our amazing children, who have shown a real passion for caring for the environment through hands-on learning, exploring nature, supporting biodiversity and making sustainable choices every day.

A huge well done to Terianne (“Terry”) and our Eco Warriors, and thank you to our wonderful staff and families for supporting our eco journey.

Together, we’re helping our children grow into confident, caring citizens who understand the importance of looking after our planet. 🌍💚

Busy Little Fingers, Big Discoveries! 🧵🔑

Our Little Gems have been strengthening their hand and finger muscles through lots of exciting threading activities. Recently, many of the children have been fascinated by posting keys into tiny spaces they discovered, so we built on this curiosity by introducing threading resources from our Emeralds room.

The children showed fantastic concentration, perseverance and growing confidence as they carefully threaded the pieces, refining the small movements needed for everyday tasks. Along the way, staff introduced rich vocabulary such as thread, through, pull, push, in, out and careful, helping to extend the children’s understanding while following their interests.

We are so proud of how capable our Little Gems have become—what a wonderful example of learning developing naturally through play! 🌟
